Project Administrator: NJ Birding and
Wildlife Trails
Job Description:
Working with the NJ Audubon Society’s
Director of Birding and Wildlife Trails, the part-time (up to 24
hours per week) Project Administrator will assist in the
development and implementation of birding and wildlife-viewing
trail publications in the NJ Pinelands counties of Atlantic,
Gloucester, Camden and Burlington. NJAS fosters environmental
awareness and a conservation ethic among New Jersey's citizens;
protects New Jersey's birds, mammals, other animals, and plants,
especially endangered and threatened species; and promotes
preservation of New Jersey's valuable natural habitats.
About NJ Birding and Wildlife Trails (BWTs):
NJAS has been awarded funding and project coordination
responsibilities for a concerted effort to develop products that
promote wildlife viewing locations in New Jersey. The project
is being undertaken in collaboration with various state and
local agencies, and requires strict adherence to deadlines.

Location and Duration: This 16-18 month
position will begin February 1, 2009 and will be located at our
Center for Research and Education in Cape May Court House, NJ.
Duties:

Assist the Director and Project
Manager as needed in communications with various
constituencies, especially project partners, public
officials, citizens, naturalists and representatives of the
media.

Data entry of contact information
and site assessment information.

Edit and proof copy such as site
descriptions and trail overviews.

Work with the NJAS Webmaster to
build up and improve BWT Program website and utilize
web-based information dissemination tools.

Implement marketing and promotional
programs, including telephone marketing.

Promote local stakeholder meetings.

Assist in the development and
implementation of economic and user satisfaction assessment
tools.

Manage stages of publication
development, such as proofing, document printing,
distribution, and marketing with major partners and other
relevant stakeholders.

Work within proprietary MS Access
database, entering contact and trail guide information

Other duties as assigned by Project
Director.
Qualifications:

Proficiency in a variety of standard
office software programs, including Microsoft Office
Professional. Familiarity with MS Access database required.

TEACHER-NATURALIST, Full Time
New Jersey Audubon Society (NJAS) Plainsboro Preserve

The teacher-naturalist has duties primarily in the education
branch of the NJAS mission. In addition to the duties and
responsibilities listed, this position requires taking an active
role in promoting New Jersey Audubon Society as a
membership-based conservation organization. Supervisor:

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach, plan, develop, and schedule natural history
programs for schools, special interest groups, nature camps,
the general public, and family programs.
- Carry out administrative duties including program
registration, sending out follow-up materials and supply
purchases.
- Care, feeding, and well being of our live animals that
are presented for educational purposes.
- Assist with the design and maintenance of exhibits.
- Promote NJAS and Plainsboro Preserve programs by
preparing flyers to post. Preparing press releases in a
timely fashion.
- Representing NJAS to the general public and to members
at conferences, nature fairs and other gatherings.
- Assist Sanctuary Director with the training and
supervision of volunteer staff involved in education or
public interface.
- Interact with visitors to the center through answering
inquiries about the natural world and NJAS, as well as
aiding in the retail operations of the Center.
- Help with care and maintenance of the grounds, gardens,
and trail system as needed.
- Interact with other New Jersey Audubon staff to promote
statewide education initiatives.
- Network with local organizations to promote the mission
of New Jersey Audubon Society.
In addition the above, the Teacher-Naturalist will work with
other staff on all projects or tasks necessary for the good
order of the facility.
Qualifications:
- Natural history knowledge of New Jersey habitats and
teaching experience.

Center’s calendar of events, office tasks, routine maintenance,
and additional duties as required by the Program Director and/or
Sanctuary Director. Environmental educators will be responsible
for completing one special project during the twelve-month
period. Opportunities exist for enthusiastic individuals to
develop curriculum and possibly research, write, and broadcast
radio programs.
Position Commitment: November 15, 2008 through August
31, 2009.
Qualifications: Baccalaureate degree or advanced
degree students. Interested applicants must be willing to work
and live in a residential/nature center setting and be willing
to work flexible hours on occasion. Teaching experience

work under the supervision of the Senior Teacher-Naturalist at
the Lorrimer Nature Sanctuary in Franklin Lakes, NJ. Duties

- Actively promote Lorrimer’s programs through a variety of
means including NJAS magazine, website, community advertising,

individual with excellent organizational skills, the ability to
multi-task, and the ability to be effective with minimal
