Bearfort Waters Bird Walk

June 15 @ 7:00 am - 11:00 am EDT
NJ United States + Google Map

Led by Dave Oster, Associate Naturalist, this walk waters offer a rich diversity of breeding birds, including 15+ warbler species, which should be on territory and in full song.  A number of these birds are relatively uncommon nesters in New Jersey, but regular here. We will start by checking the swampy southern end of Bearfort and then explore trails leading through a variety of habitat including coniferous and deciduous woods, low, wet areas and dry mountain laurel thickets.  Solitary Vireo, Blackburnian Warbler, and Black-Throated Green Warbler are likely in wooded areas, while a nearby wet woodland offers nesting Acadian Flycatcher and Northern Waterthrush.  A trail through the upland mountain laurel thickets is especially exciting--Hooded Warbler is regular and Black-Throated Blue and Canada Warblers very possible.   Additional flycatchers, thrushes, vireos and warblers should round out the bird list.  Participants should be prepared for wet and/or uneven rocky trails, depending on the route we take.  To register please call 908-396-6386. $15 members, $20 nonmembers. Directions: North on Route 287 to Route 23 (Exit 52).  Take Route 23 North for about 9 miles to the Clinton Road exit.  Exit onto La Rue Road, which intersects with Clinton in about 100 feet.  Turn right on Clinton Road and drive approximately 7 miles north to parking area P7 on the left.
