Migration Madness Birding Walk (Postponed)

Discover this hidden treasure in the Delaware River! With access granted only a few times a year this urban oasis offers a great variety of wading, shore and woodland birds in addition to views of Bald Eagles. We will be looking for spring arrivals using the Delaware River to navigate and Petty’s Island to rest and nest. Children MUST be 12 and older to participate. These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. Troy Meadows (Postponed)

Led by Dave Oster, Associate Naturalist. We will walk Troy Meadow Road down to the marsh, and possibly some side trails. In early spring Troy offers an excellent diversity of migrant and breeding birds--Wood Duck, Bald Eagle, Red-shouldered Hawk, Pileated Woodpecker, Eastern Bluebird, and Cedar Waxwing are all regular. In recent years Red-headed Woodpecker has established a nesting presence at Troy and we will make a special effort to hear and see this beautiful bird. And there is always a "surprise" or two at Troy. Be prepared for wet and muddy conditions. Cost: $10 members, $15 nonmembers. To register please call 908-396-6386. Please meet at the Algonquin gas line cut on Troy Meadows Road off S Beverwyck in Parsippany. The cut is shortly after the road turns from paved to dirt.

If winds are right, there could be an excellent hawk and swallow flight, while colorful warblers and other neotropic migrants are beginning to appear in the thickets and woods. Earthday Birthday and Marine Debris Clean-Up (Postponed)

Join in with the staff and volunteers of Nature Center of Cape May to celebrate its 25th birthday as a New Jersey Audubon center while also marking 50 year of Earth Days. We will start the day as we always do on one of the last Saturdays in April be participating in Clean Ocean Action’s statewide Beach Sweep by scouring the shoreline of Cape May Harbor and other local beaches. Volunteers will also awaken our wildlife-friendly garden beds, nature trail and meadow habitats by assisting with basic landscaping tasks and property maintenance. Following a lunchtime picnic break and some birthday cake hang around for some party fun including a community project eco-art, Earth Day educational games and a chance to visit our Green Fair area with local business vendors who provide eco-friendly and sustainable products. The Dirty Hands Garden Club: Hypertufa Pot (Postponed)

The Dirty Hands Garden Club features gardening and environmental stewardship workshops. Get your hands dirty and learn how to grow native plants, save water, and make your own planter. Register for one workshop or register for all three for the discounted price of $49 members, $67 non-members for all three workshops. To receive the discounted price, you must register and pay for all three workshops by January 18. 1/25/2020: Gardening for Wildlife 2/29/2020: Make Your Own Rain Barrel 4/25/2020: Hypertufa Pot Hypertufa Pot Make a beautiful outdoor garden container that will last for years. Old stone sinks and animal troughs have been used to grow plants for many years and are now scarce and very expensive. But we can make them from hypertufa, a rustic, textured type of artificial stone you make in molds of various shapes. It is lighter than regular concrete and will not be damaged by freezing after it is completely cured. We will also make a moss mixture to take home to grow moss on the outside of your hypertufa pot.
