Join CMBO naturalists for this 2-hour walk around the Cape May Point State Park and beyond! Not watching birds when in Cape May is like not visiting the Grand Canyon when in Arizona! Join us for a relaxed morning of birding whether you are a seasoned birder or have never really watched birds on purpose before PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED COST: $6 members, $10 nonmembers. Be sure to check the forecast in advance and dress in layers appropriate for prevailing weather conditions. The weather in Cape May can differ considerably from nearby inland areas and may be warmer, colder, or windier so it’s best to be over prepared. We may have to bird in the rain, so please bring your rain gear. TRANSPORTATION: We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over jetties. CANCELLATION: NJ Audubon’s CMBO programs are virtually never cancelled. If we cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, all participants will be notified as soon as possible and are eligible for a full refund. Participants may cancel without penalty if greater than 48 hours in advance. Sorry, no refund for cancellations less than 48 hours in advance unless due to health emergencies; however, registrations can be transferred to another program in the future. Troy Meadows Birding Walk

With Dave Hall. Explore both fields and forested wetlands in one of the largest well-preserved swamps in northern New Jersey. Varied habitat can be great for breeding birds of the woodlands and meadows. The combination of forest and meadow habitat makes for spectacular views of late summer residents actively foraging. Troy Meadows is a large, diverse freshwater marsh located in East Hanover, Hanover, and Parsippany-Troy Hills, in Morris County, New Jersey. It is located within the Whippany River Watershed in the Passaic River Basin. It is 3,100 acres, located downstream of the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge and the Black Meadows, upstream of the Great Piece Meadows Preserve, and about 25 miles west of New York City. It is located along the Atlantic flyway and serves as a staging area for migratory waterfowl. Troy Meadows is designated as a "National Natural Landmark," by the National Park Service, a "New Jersey Natural Area" and also a "Natural Heritage Priority site" by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection (NJ DEP).Footing can be wet and/or slippery if frozen. Drive to the end of Troy Meadows Road and you will see a parking area to your left or park along the road on the left.

The webinar will cover common New Jersey invasive plants, their history, and a view of recent invasive plants of the Invasive Species Strike Team. Included are some native plants you can use to replace the invasive plants to start your backyard transformation into a Garden for Wildlife. This program will be presented using Microsoft 365. Meet a Nature Center Naturalist on the beach for an hour of ghost crab hunting! Learn about ghost crab habitat, how they move, and what they eat. Do you think you can catch one? Discover what other creatures are on the beach at night. Pre-registration required. WHERE: Meet at the end of Mount Vernon Avenue near the end of the Promenade in Cape May. WHEN: Thursday evenings. 8:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. WHO CAN JOIN?: A wonderful family program! Children may not participate without an adult. EQUIPMENT NEEDED: We will provide at least 1 "Ghost Crab Catcher 5000" Flashlights (Cell phone flashlights work too!)
