NJ Audubon’s Bearfort Waters & Mossman’s Brook Trail Birding Walk

June 12 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
Bearfort Waters Clinton Road
Hewitt,NJ07421United States
+ Google Map

Join Associate Naturalist Dave Oster at Bearfort Waters to look for warblers and forest birds. We'll first bird the swampy southern end of Bearfort Waters, where Red-shouldered Hawk, Wood Duck, and Least Flycatcher are often present. An adjacent hemlock woods typically has Black-throated Green and Blackburnian Warblers, and Worm-eating Warbler on a nearby slope. We'll then follow Mossman's Brook Trail to its exit on Clinton Road. The trail is extremely "birdy," and in June rings with bird-song. We should encounter Acadian Flycatcher, Wood Thrush, Veery, Hooded Warbler and large numbers of Redstart and Ovenbird. Both Waterthrush are possible, and last year Cerulean Warblers were present in mature trees on the adjacent ridge. The walk back along Clinton Road should yield Pine and Hooded Warblers. Insect repellent is recommended as large numbers of insects attract the large numbers of birds along the brook. COST: $15 members, $20 nonmembers. One person per ticket. Registration required. Walk-ins will not be permitted to participate. Ticket sales end on 6/11/2021 at 4:00 PM.
