NEW FOR 2021! Has the recent explosion of interest in "birding" piqued your curiosity? Join CMBO Northwood staff for an introduction about starting this endlessly fascinating pastime right in your own yard! We will slowly stroll the Ryan DeWitt Trail at CMBO's Northwood Center and briefly review three approaches to birding: finding and identifying birds; bird feeding; and turning turning your yard into a haven for birds, butterflies, and much more. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: We bird in all weather. Be sure to check the forecast in advance and dress in layers appropriate for prevailing weather conditions. The weather in Cape May can differ considerably from nearby inland areas and may be warmer, colder, or windier so it’s best to be over prepared. We may have to bird in the rain, so please bring your rain gear. TRANSPORTATION: We may walk up to .5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Sorry, no refund for cancellations less than 48 hours in advance unless due to health emergencies; however, registrations can be transferred to another program in the future. Family Fun Week: Session A

The whole family can join in the fun exploring our natural world! This program is for adult and child combos to enjoy a summer camp-like experience at Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary! One adult must accompany child(ren). Session A: July 6 & 7, 2021 9:00am to 12:00pm each day Ages 3 and up The whole family can join in the fun! This 2-day session is all about nature exploration, utilizing our Summer Quest guides and everyone’s favorite summer camp activities. We might explore the river, look for creatures under logs in the forest, catch bugs in the field, or look for tadpoles in the pond. The Summer Quest guides packed with nature-based activities will also be available to take home to continue your exploration beyond Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary! Pre-registration is a must. Help pull our seine net through the Cape May Harbor and see first hand what creatures inhabit the waters. Encounter an incredible diversity of marine life as you help pull a twenty-foot seine net through the shallows of Cape May Harbor. You will learn about the ecology of our coastal waters, and about the fascinating and ancient Horseshoe Crab. A great family outing! Pre-registration is required. COST: $10 adults, $5 children ages 3-12, children under 3 free. Limited to groups of up to 20 participants during this time. Children may not participate without an adult. Contact us at 609.427.3045 for private group tours and rates. INFORMATION: Meet 5-10 minutes prior to your program time at the picnic tables in front of the Trucksess Welcome Center at 1600 Delaware Avenue. We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over rocky and sandy area. Please bring necessary footwear, sun screen, bug spray, water bottle, and other belongings with you that you may need. Restrooms will be available to the public 30 minutes before and after the program.
