Nature at Your own Pace! Quest 1: Amazing Animals

Each Nature Quest includes a kit mailed to your child, interactive online chats with a Naturalist and at-home activities for endless fun! Amazing Animals Quest: New Jersey is home to so many amazing animals! A wide variety can be seen right in your own yard or local parks. Migrate with the birds, meet our live animal ambassadors, and hunt for animal tracks and signs in your neighborhood! Dates: July 12-16 Explore nature in your own space, at your own pace! Receive exclusive access to a virtual calendar for the week with daily nature-based activities to complete. Each activity will have step-by-step instructions or a video to guide you. An exploration kit will be mailed to your home with items to take on your adventures! Your camper will have opportunities to participate in virtual group activities, building community with other campers. Additionally, a NJA naturalist will host virtual chat sessions with campers on Monday and Friday. Continue exploring after camp week; with your own digital copy of our quest magazine, you’ll have loads of fun ideas! Collaborative birding class at Lorrimer Sanctuary. Great for totally new birders & birders of all levels! What’s better than catching the sunrise on the way to Early Bird Beginner Birding at Lorrimer Sanctuary? Whether you’re brand new to the hobby or you’d like to sharpen your skills, this course is open to collaborative birders. We will take some time to discuss the frequent visitors to the birdfeeders, and walk through the woodlands to search for our local birds! COST: $10 members / $15 nonmembers IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Dress appropriately for the weather. This program is entirely outdoors. Join CMBO naturalists for this 2-hour walk around The Nature Conservancy's South Cape May Meadows Preserve property! End your week, or start your weekend, enjoying the summer birds that nest in or visit this beautiful refuge's freshwater marsh, dunes, and beach. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. Be sure to check the forecast in advance and dress in layers appropriate for prevailing weather conditions. The weather in Cape May can differ considerably from nearby inland areas and may be warmer, colder, or windier so it’s best to be over prepared. We may have to bird in the rain, so please bring your rain gear. TRANSPORTATION: We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Join us for an exploration of the Cape May Harbor led by our 4-H teen leaders! Encounter an incredible diversity of marine life as you help pull a twenty-foot seine net through the shallows of Cape May Harbor. You will learn about the ecology of our coastal waters, and about the fascinating and ancient Horseshoe Crab. COST: Free with suggested donation. Contact us at 609.427.3045 for private group tours and rates. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Meet 5-10 minutes prior to your program time at the picnic tables in front of the Trucksess Welcome Center at 1600 Delaware Avenue. We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over rocky and sandy area. Please bring necessary footwear, sun screen, bug spray, water bottle, and other belongings with you that you may need. Restrooms will be available to the public 30 minutes before and after the program.
