Summer Birding Sit-In

Join the knowledgeable Kathy Easton for a lovely morning at the Plainsboro Preserve, and spend a little time in nature enjoying our native plant gardens and the wildlife who enjoys them. Participants joining this program are encouraged to bring binoculars, a folding chair and a coffee to enjoy watching the birds and butterflies that visit our native plant gardens. What will we find there? Bluebirds and wrens have been building nests in the bird boxes. Hummingbirds have been seen sipping the coral honeysuckle. Monarchs have been laying eggs on the milkweed. And just try to count how many pollinators are visiting the bee balm. That garden is a wonderland. Who knows what we will see during this program. Feel free to bring your camera too! Summer is a great time for shorebirds, herons, egrets, and terns at one of the best birding spots in the state. It might be mid-summer, but bird migration is well underway beginning in July. Each week should bring different species of shorebirds as they stop to feed and rest at this productive refuge. There are usually good numbers of herons, egrets, and ibis present. Also present may be various terns and songbirds. Multiple habitats here ensure a good variety of birds. Led by Scott Barnes and associate naturalists. NEW JERSEY AUDUBON'S PROGRAM GUIDELINES: Effective June 4, 2021, fully vaccinated people may attend outdoor programs without masks. If you are unvaccinated, please mask up. Please do not come to a program if you are sick, have a sick family member or have reason to believe you may have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus. REGISTER HERE
