These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is snow, rain, or weather warnings. Registration required by 4:00 PM the day before the walk. You must pre-register, walk-ins will not be allowed to participate. NJ Audubon: Old Coal Trail Birdwalk
Old Coal Trail - Clinton Rd NJJoin Associate Naturalist Dave Oster to bird around Old Coal Trail in West Milford. We’ll walk the Old Coal Trail and probably an additional trail that runs west and north of Bearfort Waters. These trails lead to higher elevations and dense mountain laurel thickets which should be in bloom. With a little patience it’s usually possible to get good views of nesting Black-throated Blue Warbler. This area is also excellent for Hooded Warbler and a variety of nesting thrushes, vireos, warblers etc. Broad-winged Hawk and Yellow-bellied Sapsucker are also possible. Just a beautiful area and very birdy. Some of the trail has loose rock so sturdy footwear is recommended. Please bring your own binoculars, and spotting scope if desired. There will be no equipment available to borrow. Ticket sales end on 6/10/2022 at 4:00 PM. Registration required. Walk-ins will not be permitted to participate. COST: $15 members, $20 nonmembers. Yoga is a great way to relax, connect with yourself, and increase flexibility and strength. Explore the connections between yoga and nature in this 75-minute class. No experience necessary; all levels welcome. For ages 15 years and older. Preregistration is required. Ticket sales end at 4:30 PM on the Friday before each class. You must pre-register, walk-ins will not be allowed to participate. We are offering an in-person class at the sanctuary and a virtual class online simultaneously. The in-person class has a limit of 10 people. Be sure to purchase the correct ticket. COST: $13 members, $16 nonmembers. Interested in becoming a member? Back Bay Birding by Boat on the Osprey
Miss Chris Marina - The Osprey 1212 Wilson Dr, Cape May, NJ 08204, NJJoin Captain Bob and the crew of The Osprey for close-up looks at secretive rails, nesting Ospreys, migrant shorebirds, terns, gulls, herons and more. We explore the coastal saltmarsh of Cape May from Cape Island Creek to the Wildwoods and view the natural wonders of historic Cape May Harbor. The Osprey is a 37' pontoon boat that has a comfortable enclosed cabin with large viewing windows, a front deck with a railing, and a restroom on board. Non-motorized wheelchair accessible. Cape Island Ocean Festival
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape MayThis exciting celebration of the sea includes fun educational activities focused on the beauty and importance of the ocean and how we can all be good stewards of the sea. Festivities will include Harbor Safaris and Horseshoe Crab Labs, creative activities with various local non-profit organizations, short films and lectures, Ocean Friendly food trucks, and a selection of carefully curated local artists selling their ocean themed work. The festival will also include a Paddle and Pedal for a Purpose (a kayak and bike tour of cape island), an ocean-themed yoga practice, and a beach clean-up. NJ Audubon Make Your Own Hypertufa Pot Workshop
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, BernardsvilleLed by Stephanie Punnett, Program Director The Creative Hands Club features workshops that upcycle or use natural/sustainable materials to create beautiful additions to your home or garden. Make a beautiful outdoor garden container that will last for years. Old stone sinks and animal troughs have been used to grow plants for many years and are now scarce and very expensive. But we can make them from hypertufa, a rustic, textured type of artificial stone you make in molds of various shapes. It is lighter than regular concrete and will not be damaged by freezing after it is completely cured. If the weather is nice the program will be held outdoors so, please dress accordingly.
