In the Presence of Birds: Oil Paintings by Janet Atkinson Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery | April 1 – May 29, 2026 2nd Floor, Scherman Hoffman Nature Center In the Presence of Birds is a solo exhibition of oil paintings by Janet Atkinson, featuring evocative depictions of birds and the natural world. Atkinson began her career as a professional illustrator, creating concept-driven imagery for book covers and editorial publications, where she became known for translating complex ideas into compelling visual narratives. She later transitioned to fine art, working primarily in oil, balancing subtle storytelling with expressive, painterly techniques. Her work has been recognized by Communication Arts, the Society of Illustrators, the Hispanic Creative Awards, and Print Design Annual. In 2026, she was selected for juried exhibitions including Visions: AAPL at the Carriage Barn Arts Center, the James Library & Center for the Arts 7th Annual Spring Show, and the Jackson's Art Prize 2026 Extended Long List. Early spring migration at “the hook.” If the winds are right, we could have a good flight of hawks, swallows, and other migrants. Spring birding at the hook for migrants. The wide variety of habitats here ensures a good diversity of bird species from herons and egrets to shorebirds, hawks, and songbirds. Be prepared for a fair amount of walking over flat and sometimes sandy terrain. Meet at parking lot B by the bathrooms. Led by Linda Mack, Carole Hughes, Jonathan Klizas, and Chris Daly. Cape May Harbor Beach Sweep

Clean Ocean Action and the Nature Center of Cape May are collaborating to help clean our ocean and harbor beaches in Cape May. Join us! Join us at the Nature Center to help clean our ocean and harbor beaches here in Cape May. This date coincides with Clean Ocean Action’s annual Beach Sweeps. This is a great community service project for your civic organization or scout group. Additionally, we’ll plant, mulch, deadhead, weed, and prune throughout the Center’s grounds and along the harbor! Pre-registration is not required but allows you to receive updates about this event. COST: FREE CANCELLATION POLICY: NJ Audubon’s programs require a minimum number of registrants to run. If we cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, all participants will be notified as soon as possible and are eligible for a full refund. Participants may cancel without penalty if greater than 48 hours in advance. Come for an adventure to the world of amphibians and explore our vernal ponds. Come for an adventure to the world of amphibians! We’ll explore our vernal ponds with nets and buckets and listen and look for American Toads that come to the ponds to lay their eggs once a year. We’ll look for frogs, tadpoles, and anything else that hops, swims, or crawls! Registration required. Ticket sale ends 04/10/26 at 4:00 PM. Cost: $15 member family, $20 nonmember family. Learn how to identify wildflowers in this indoor/outdoor workshop. Led by Dorothy Smullen, Teacher Naturalist. Don’t just scan the color pages to try to identify wildflowers! Join Dorothy to learn how to use the identification keys in your guidebooks. We will brush up on flower vocabulary and practice hands-on ID in the indoor part. Following that, we will walk the trails to see and identify what's in bloom. Bring your favorite wildflower guide and camera. Registration required by 4/10 at 4:00 PM.
