Avalon Seawatch Avalon, NJ, United StatesThe migration of scoters and other sea ducks, loons, cormorants and gannets can be an overwhelming sight. For example, the CMBO full-time Avalon Seawatch project sighted over one million seabirds here in 2014! Hawks, Trails and Beach
Cape May Point State Park Hawkwatch Platform NJ, United StatesJoin CMBO naturalists for this 2-hour walk around the Cape May Point State Park! The afternoon hawk flight is often strong, with late day movements of falcons. Seabirds and shorebirds often pass or rest on the beach and songbirds are found on the trails. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. Creative Hands Club: Boho Denim Earrings

Create your own masterpiece to take home with you or give as a holiday gift for friends and family. Join West Cape May artist Carla Schaeffer in upcycling denim jeans into fun and lightweight bohemian denim earrings. We will cut up jeans and use a metal grommet tool to create earrings that we can either keep plain or decorate and embellish with lace, ribbon, and crafting gems. Pre-registration is required. Muddy Hands Academy: Fall 2022

A great choice for your 3–6-year old's! *Free to apply! * Looking for a way to add nature learning to your little one's week? Join New Jersey Audubon Staff as we use local phenomena to explore the world around us. Children will spend their time outdoors on the Lorrimer Sanctuary property bouncing between hands-on, inquiry-based activities and free-play to help them develop their own understanding of the natural world. We will use Nature as a guide during this twice weekly program over a period of eight weeks. Lessons will include activities focused on natural history topics, a story and craft, age-appropriate risk taking, all with attention to mindfulness and fun. *NO COST TO APPLY! * Children must be a minimum of 3 to enroll and cannot be older than 6 years old to participate. All children in Muddy Hands Academy must be potty-trained and bathroom independent. The Muddy Hands Academy utilizes a Nature Preschool model with children spending as much time as possible outdoors. Children should be prepared for the weather including wet and muddy conditions. Class sizes are limited to 5 children per session. NJ Audubon Hawk Watches at Scherman Hoffman Observation Deck
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesJoin our Naturalist on the observation deck for a bird’s eye view of fall migration. Marvel at the spectacular view of raptors and other birds as they fly over the sanctuary. Hawk Watches are scheduled for Friday 11/4 and 11/11 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Note: a hawk watch day will be cancelled if there is rain, snow, or weather warnings. Registration and fee are per date. You must pre-register for each date you wish to attend. Birding on the Barrier Islands
Stone Harbor Point - 2nd Ave Parking Lot NJ, United StatesJoin Chris Marks and CMBO Naturalists, as we explore some of the iconic barrier islands in Cape May County! These long and narrow land strips are teeming with a variety of birds. For this trip, we’ll spend the majority of our time on Seven Mile Island, home to the boroughs of Stone Harbor and Avalon as well as amazing ocean views, dunes, and marshes. As we walk the beach at Stone Harbor Point, we’ll look for wintering shorebirds, gulls, and sparrows. The Avalon jetty is a great spot to try for winter goodies such as Great Cormorant and Purple Sandpiper as well as migrating scoters, loons, and other waterfowl. We may also try for salty sparrows such as Nelson’s and Saltmarsh Sparrow on Nummy Island. We do not set a firm daily schedule in advance, leaving us flexible to maximize birding opportunities, taking advantage of weather conditions, tides, and recent bird sightings.
