NJ Audubon: Paint Your Own Gourd Birdhouse
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesLed by Bonnie O’Connor, Art Teacher, and Stephanie Punnett, Program Director. Paint your own gourd birdhouse for the cavity nesting birds returning from their winter homes this spring. Bonnie, retired art teacher with 40 years' experience, will give a demonstration on painting technique, and help you along with your painting. All materials provided. Information on growing your own gourds will be provided. Hang your decorative gourd birdhouse in your backyard and enjoy watching the new resident raise their young! One person per ticket. Birding on the Barrier Islands
Stone Harbor Point - 2nd Ave Parking Lot NJ, United StatesJoin Chris Marks and CMBO Naturalists, as we explore some of the iconic barrier islands in Cape May County! These long and narrow land strips are teeming with a variety of birds. For this trip, we’ll spend the majority of our time on Seven Mile Island, home to the boroughs of Stone Harbor and Avalon as well as amazing ocean views, dunes, and marshes. As we walk the beach at Stone Harbor Point, we’ll look for wintering shorebirds, gulls, and sparrows. The Avalon jetty is a great spot to try for winter goodies such as Great Cormorant and Purple Sandpiper as well as migrating scoters, loons, and other waterfowl. We may also try for salty sparrows such as Nelson’s and Saltmarsh Sparrow on Nummy Island. We do not set a firm daily schedule in advance, leaving us flexible to maximize birding opportunities, taking advantage of weather conditions, tides, and recent bird sightings. We will walk up to 2 miles on sand and boardwalk. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED COST: $15 members, $20 nonmembers. Interested in becoming a member? Tap a tree, collect sap, and taste test the syrup! Join a NJ Audubon naturalist for a fun look into the process behind making maple syrup! Learn how to identify a sugar maple tree, find out how maple sap (and eventually syrup) was discovered, collect sap, and practice tapping a tree yourself! Sunday Morning at Turkey Point

NJ Audubon: Australian Travels: Birds and Blooms Webinar

This armchair tour of Australia will start in Melbourne in the southeast and then hop to Perth on the west coast. It will end up back in the east in Queensland at the Daintree rain forest. Discover all the birds and blooms along the way with special emphasis on the plant genus Banksia. Presented via Zoom. Preregistration required. The Backyard and Beyond Exhibit
NJ, United StatesRobert Mathewson is a full-time professional photographer. In recent years, wildlife photography and specifically bird photograph has become a passion of his. His photographic journey from Backyard to Beyond will be on display at the Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery through April 30, 2023. Artist’s reception on Sunday February 5th, 2023 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM. The Art Gallery is open Fridays 9:30 – 4:30, Saturdays 9:30 – 4:30 and Sundays 12 noon – 5pm. NJ Audubon Learning the Birds by Song Series
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesLed by Randy Little, Associate Naturalist For beginners and those with some experience, this birding-by-song series will improve your bird identification skills. More often than not, birds are heard before they are seen (if seen at all!) Learning their songs will add another dimension to your birdwatching. Randy Little is a former NJA board member and long-time NJA volunteer. Randy learned birding as a youngster under the wings of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology’s founders and is a master at recording bird songs for the Cornell Lab. This series will begin Thursday March 2 and continue every Thursday evening until April 6. March 2 & 9 classes will cover the winter resident birds, March 16 & 23 classes will cover the early migrant birds, and March 30 & April 6 classes will cover the summer resident birds. After the end of the series participants may join Randy for a free, outdoor, “practical hands-on” Learning the Birds by Song walk at the Sanctuary. COST PER CLASS: $10 members, $15 nonmembers.
