Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery: Genuine Character: Scott Gilbert’s Images of Avian Personality

Each species and individual displays a unique personality. Think of the relentless determination of the shorebirds, the soaring independence of the raptors, or the colorful charm of the warblers. For bird photographer Scott Gilbert, the magic happens on those special occasions when he is able to reflect the subject's distinctive character in a way that meaningfully resonates with the viewer. An exhibition of Scott’s characterful photographs opens at the Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery, at the Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary, on March 1, 2019 and runs until May 27, 2019. Sundays open from 12 to 4 Mondays closed

Many southern birds, including Summer Tanager, Hooded Warbler, Acadian Flycatcher, and Yellow-billed Cuckoo, are near the northern limit of their breeding range in Belleplain. Enjoy a quiet morning here at the Sanctuary walking the trails with an NJ Audubon staff and/or associate naturalist. These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is heavy snow, rain, or weather warnings. FREE

Led by Dave Oster, Associate Naturalist. We'll explore wooded trails adjacent to a large wetland area known as Rattlesnake Meadow. We'll be looking for nesting birds like Pileated Woodpecker, warblers, flycatchers, vireos, kinglets, as well as late migrants. Red-shouldered Hawk spotted last year. The Meadow often has Wood Duck and Great Blue Heron. Time permitting we'll walk the shorter trails around Rigby's Brook. $15 members, $20 nonmembers. Please meet at Tourne County Park

Back Bay Birding by Boat on the Osprey

Join Captain Bob and the naturalists and crew of The Osprey for close-up looks at secretive rails, nesting Ospreys, migrant shorebirds, terns, gulls, herons and more. We explore the coastal saltmarsh of Cape May from Cape Island Creek to the Wildwoods and view the natural wonders of historic Cape May Harbor. The Osprey is a 37' pontoon boat that has a comfortable enclosed cabin with large viewing windows, a front deck with a railing, and a restroom on board. Non-motorized wheelchair accessible.
