NJ Audubon Waywayanda State Park Birding Walk
May 22 @ 8:00 am - 12:30 pm
Led by Dave Oster, Associate Naturalist
Wawayanda comprises over 10,000 acres of rugged terrain in Passaic and Sussex Counties. In late May a wide variety of breeding birds should be present, as well as lingering migrants. We’ll scan the lake for ravens, raptors, and swallows before heading to the trailhead. We will explore one or more trails east of Wawayanda Lake looking for species such as Red-shouldered Hawk, Broad-winged Hawk, Hermit Thrush, Blue-headed Vireo, and Black-throated Green, Hooded, Cerulean, and Worm-eating Warblers. Other possibilities include Winter Wren, Brown Creeper, flycatchers, and vireos. Sturdy footwear is recommended for this trip.
COST: $10 members, $15 nonmembers. One person per ticket.
Registration required. Walk-ins will not be permitted to participate.
Ticket sales end on 5/21/2021 at 4:00 PM.
NEW JERSEY AUDUBON’S PROGRAM GUIDELINES:
New Jersey Audubon field trips and programs adhere to CDC guidelines; leaders have the right to ask a participant to leave the program if someone is not adhering to these guidelines for the health and safety of all. Leaders and participants must wear face coverings throughout the program and maintain social distancing (at least 6’ of separation). Leaders may remove their face covering in order to be heard by the group while maintaining social distance. Please do not come to a program if you are sick or have a sick family member. There will be no sharing of equipment including binoculars or spotting scopes.
***If you have spent time in a state that appears on New Jersey’s Travel Advisories, we request that you do not attend the program and will provide a full refund.***
Please bring your own binoculars, and spotting scope if desired. There will be no equipment available to borrow.
CANCELLATION: NJ Audubon’s programs require a minimum number of registrants to run. If we cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, all participants will be notified as soon as possible and are eligible for a full refund. Participants may cancel without penalty if greater than 48 hours in advance. Sorry, no refund for cancellations less than 48 hours in advance unless due to health emergencies; however registrations can be transferred to another program in the future.
