Raritan Bay Hotspots
March 18 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Early spring birding for loons, grebes, gulls, & migrants. If winds are right, we could have a modest hawk flight. Explore the western section of Raritan Bay for waterbirds. We’ll begin at the Paul’s Beach section of Old Bridge Waterfront Park, then continue west to Raritan Bay Waterfront Park. The bay usually hosts a variety of ducks, loons, and Horned Grebes. In most springs, Northern Gannets flock in the bay feeding on Menhaden. Some early spring songbird migrants could be around including Eastern Phoebe and Tree Swallow. Be prepared for easy walking for 3 hours. Led by Scott Barnes and Hank Burk.
Meet at the “Paul’s Beach” section of Old Bridge Waterfront Park. This is just east of the mouth of Cheesequake Creek. Location: Route 35 North, Old Bridge Township. GPS Coordinates: N 40° 27′ 41.17″, W 74° 15′ 16.12″
