Led by Dave Oster, Associate Naturalist
Wildcat Ridge Wildlife Management Area, located off Green Pond Road in northern Morris County, preserves almost 6000 acres of forest and wooded ridgeline. The area is surprisingly rugged and supports populations of bear, beaver, porcupine, and bobcat. We will begin with a walk to the beaver pond to look for Yellow-rumped and Palm Warblers, Towhee, Swainson’s Thrush. Then we’ll hike approximately 20 minutes to the ridge and should see Ravens soaring with the raptors. The trail is well maintained and there is an excellent chance of encountering pileated woodpecker along the way. Time permitting we’ll check out nearby beautiful Splitrock Reservoir. Cost: $10 members, $15 nonmembers.
Please meet at Enholm Field, Green Pond Road, Rockaway, NJ (about six miles north of Rte 80 Exit 37)
