Mating season is here for the American woodcock. Let’s take a hike and watch for their unique mating display. Enjoy the cool evening spring air as we listen for the call of the American woodcock. The males call out “peent” before launching themselves into an erratic flight display in order to attract females. We’ll hike up one or two hills in search of their call and to hopefully catch this amazing mating ritual. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water, a headlamp for when we hike back down, and something to sit on as we sit in an open field and watch the dizzying display.
*Please check your email before the event for exact directions to the location which can be somewhat tricky to find. *
COST: $8 NJ Audubon members, $10 nonmembers.
