Hatfield Swamp Summer Meander
With Dave Hall. We hope to find early fall migrants in the wetland meadows and forests of this largely intact Essex County reservation. Exploring varied habitats for a wide variety of birds including warblers, flycatchers and more. Footing may be wet. Meet at Stop & Shop, 875 Bloomfield Avenue, West Caldwell, NJ 07006 and carpool from there to different parts of this large reservation. Footing may be wet. The majority of the Hatfield Swamp consists of forested wetlands with areas of scrub-shrub habitat and emergent wetland within the flood plain of the Passaic River. The site encompasses the Great Piece Meadows Natural Heritage Priority Site. Wintering Sharp-shinned Hawks, Long-eared Owls and Northern Saw-whet Owls are common. Meet at the Stop and Shop parking lot on Bloomfield Ave in West Caldwell. NEW JERSEY AUDUBON'S PROGRAM GUIDELINES: Effective June 4, 2021, fully vaccinated people may attend outdoor programs without masks. If you are unvaccinated, please mask up.
