SITE DESCRIPTION:  Make a trail of bread crumbs when you wander around the Willow Oak Natural Area, a labyrinth of grassy paths through advanced successional woodland. The city of Vineland Environmental Commission maintains this area seemingly for the sole delight of bird lovers. If you like Gray Catbirds, this area is abundant with these common, yet thoroughly entertaining song mimics. Towering old sweet gum trees fringe a large area of early growth autumn olive and black cherry trees. In fact, sweet gum trees of every age can be observed — look for their unusual “corky ridges.” Take precautions against ticks, chiggers and biting insects during the warmer months.
