Trail Guides

Any birder from New Jersey, or even the tri-state area, is undoubtedly familiar with the first stop on this trail. Thousands of migrating shorebirds, songbirds, raptors and waterfowl utilize the freshwater and saltwater marshes and upland habitats at Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, and rarities turn up on a regular basis. Be sure to stop at the visitor’s center, check the sightings log, talk to the friendly refuge staff for tips, and take your time exploring. From Forsythe, you’ll head south to another salt marsh overlook at Absecon Creek Wildlife Management Area, and then into the rich woods of a hidden park in Galloway. Watch out for the Jersey Devil as you travel to the overlook at Scotts Landing on Leeds Point, and be sure to check out Oyster Creek and Historic Smithville before heading to the quaint, old-fashioned maritime town of Port Republic. Visit three scenic preserves along the Nacote Creek and Mullica River before ending your journey on the ecologically diverse campus of Stockton College.
