Important Bird Areas are sites that provide essential habitat for one or more species of birds and that make a contribution to the long-term viability of native avian populations in New Jersey.
This site guide offers a comprehensive look into the most important sites in NJ for breeding, wintering and migrating birds and for native bird populations in NJ. It is a valuable resource for communities, landowners, land planners, conservation and wildlife professionals, conservation organizations, governmental agencies and other stakeholders interested in conservation. This publication will also be used to educate landowners and community members about conservation opportunities at their local IBAs and will provide the necessary background to our volunteer-based Adopt-an-IBA Program.
This site is the cumulation of data submitted by hundreds of volunteers. This data was carefully reviewed and checked against site selection criteria by an IBA Technical Committee made up of professionals in the field.
