Start your journey at the lovely Bishop Farmstead and stock up on program information and resources at the Pinelands Preservation Alliance office. You’ll pass through the charming rural town of Pemberton and hike cool, shady trails through transitional forests along the Rancocas Greenway before slipping into the dense pine forests and cedar swamps of Brendan Byrne State Forest. Picnic at Pakim Pond and learn about the Pine Barrens in a nutshell. Or, plan a grand-scale adventure on the 50-mile Batona Trail, which begins just outside of Brendan Byrne State Forest in the ghost town of Ongs Hat. Finally, visit historic Whitesbog Village for excellent birding along the auto tour and a trip back in time through an old mill town.
