Rainbow Roundup Nature Walk
FeaturedNature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesSpring has sprung! All around us, the colors of the rainbow are popping up in nature! Can you collect them all? During our Rainbow Roundup Nature Walk, we will take a gentle stroll around the Nature Center of Cape May trails in search of all the colors of spring. We will identify the first blooms of the season, search for signs of wildlife, and collect a few natural treasures along the way. Can you find all the colors of the rainbow? This program is best suited for children 10 and younger. Kids under 2 are free. Important note: This is not a drop-off program; adults must accompany children. Participation is limited. Pre-registration is required. COST: Children $8, Adults $12 IMPORTANT INFORMATION: We may walk up to a mile, over generally level surfaces. Some surfaces may be muddy or uneven. Please dress warmly and wear sturdy footwear. Craft for the Birds!
FeaturedNature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesJoin area writer, birder, and conservation advocate Kelly Ball to craft a life-sized bird sculpture from upcycled cloth and become part of a crowdsourced art project. Each handcrafted bird commemorates a real bird that lost its life after hitting glass. Your bird will become part of a 300-ft art project that will travel the U.S. to educate the public about bird-window collisions and you'll be part of the searchable database of people that contributed. We'll also learn how to prevent bird-window collisions - especially important during spring migration! Note: This is a family-friendly program. Adults must accompany children. Do you have what it takes to be a birder? We will teach you all the foundational skills of birding- from using binoculars and spotting scopes to bird ID and more. Spend time exploring Cape May’s best birding hubs, plus enjoy classic summer camp-inspired games and activities throughout the sessions! Join us for one day or sign up for all three! SCHEDULE: April 6th: Hang out at the nature center for a morning jam-packed with summer-camp favorite activities. Learn the basics of using binoculars, play camp games, and search for shorebirds on the Cape May Harbor! April 8th: Take a field trip and explore some of Cape May’s best Spring Migration spots! Visit the Cape May Point State Park and the Cape May Springwatch to start adding new species to your “life list”. April 10th: Become a community scientist! Learn all about how you can help birds by studying them. Record the birds you spot so scientists can use your data for conservation! Cape May Harbor Beach Sweep
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesClean Ocean Action and the Nature Center of Cape May are collaborating to help clean our ocean and harbor beaches in Cape May. Join us! Join us at the Nature Center to help clean our ocean and harbor beaches here in Cape May. This date coincides with Clean Ocean Action’s annual Beach Sweeps. This is a great community service project for your civic organization or scout group. Additionally, we’ll plant, mulch, deadhead, weed, and prune throughout the Center’s grounds and along the harbor! Family Crafts: Hammered Floral Art

Bring the whole family for an hour of nature-based crafting! We will start the workshop by walking around the Nature Center’s trails in search of the first blooms of Spring. Then we will use our collected flowers to create a one-of-a-kind print from natural pigments! The whole family is invited to get in on the fun. Your ticket includes crafting supplies for each child. Harborside Sketch & Observation Workshop

Slow down and take in the scenery of the Cape May Harbor in the slow sketch session with local artist Cindy Bilbao. We will spend 2 hours sketching the Cape May Harbor without the expectation of creating a perfect piece of art. This class is suitable for beginners through experienced artists. Moonlit Horseshoe Crab Walk
Featured Birds Before BeachNature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesGrab your flashlights and get ready to behold an annual spring phenomenon: Horseshoe Crab spawning on the Cape May Harbor! Walk along the shoreline with a Nature Center Naturalist and learn all about Horseshoe Crab ecology and life history. Plus, help this keystone species by flipping them over while listening to the tale of Red Knots, an endangered species lovingly nicknamed the “Moon Bird”. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Children may not participate without an adult. Please bring flashlights (cell phone flashlights work too!). We may walk up to a mile, over generally level surfaces. Some surfaces may be sandy, slippery, or uneven. Please dress for the weather and wear waterproof footwear. reTURN the Favor Public Walk: Cape May Harbor
Featured Birds Before BeachNature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesJoin us for a reTURN the Favor walk organized by New Jersey Audubon to help rescue stranded horseshoe crabs and learn more about them along the way. This event is great for all ages. Be sure to wear shoes that can get wet, and be prepared for the conditions, including bug spray and sun protection. We will begin the program in the Nature Center’s Aqua Lab before venturing onto the harbor beach to search for horseshoe crabs! PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED COST: FREE Interested in becoming a member?
