Birding Cape May Point – February 21, 2026

Leaders: Kathy & Roger Horn, Holly & Mark Lemieux, Bernie Hodgdon

Temp: 40°F

Winds: NW 8 mph

Weather Conditions: sunny, some clouds

The fact that it was sunny and above freezing made it an enjoyable walk at the State Park this morning. And in addition, there were birds! After that long period of extreme cold we had very few ducks and swans left but there were a nice flock of Red-breasted Mergansers and a few Hooded Mergansers feeding on the now-open ponds, along with a smattering of other ducks. A Great-blue Heron and a Red-tailed Hawk sat in cedars around Bunker Pond, scoopable in the bright morning light. Yellow-rumped Warblers are still fairly plentiful and the back of the park held a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker as well as some Eastern Bluebirds and Gray Catbirds.
