“Low Tide”, by Jorge Louis Monteagudo at the Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery at the Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, BernardsvilleThe Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary will present “Low Tide”, from Sunday, September 22 through Sunday, November 10 at its Wayrick Gallery at 11 Hardscrabble Road in Bernardsville. “Low Tide”, by Jorge Louis Monteagudo, features wildlife photographs taken in the New Jersey Meadowlands where he grew up. Most of the images in the exhibit were taken at or near low tide when the birds typically come out to feed. “Low Tide” is a culmination of Jorge’s many outings to the Meadowlands, and it continues to evolve. Jorge’s work is dedicated to those who fight to protect our natural resources; for without them, none of it would be possible. Admission to “Low Tide” is free and open to the public Wednesday - Sunday. Prints of the exhibition are available for purchase. Thirty percent of proceeds will be donated to the NJ Audubon. The public is invited to meet Jorge Louis Monteagudo at a free opening reception on September 22 from 2 to 4 pm. Light refreshments will be served. Sandy Hook - Lot B Hartshorne Drive, Sandy HookEarly fall birding at the hook: we may encounter anything from shorebirds and terns to flycatchers, sparrows, and warblers. A wide variety of habitats ensure good bird diversity at one of the state’s best spots. Be prepared for 3-4 hours of walking over flat and sandy surfaces. Led by Scott Barnes, Linda Mack, Carole Hughes, & other associate naturalists. Cape May Songbird Stopover Project: Banding Demo
The Nature Conservancy's South Cape May Meadows 692 Sunset Blvd, Cape MayJoin the Cape May Songbird Stopover Project team as they walk you through the processes and procedures of songbird banding! Gain an understanding of the project while taking a closer look at how and why songbirds are being banded at the Nature Conservancy's South Cape May Meadows. Most importantly, learn how songbird banding is being utilized to inform decisions on conservation policy development, species conservation, and land stewardship initiatives. Preregistration is required. NJ Audubon Hawk Watches at Scherman Hoffman Observation Deck
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, BernardsvilleJoin our Naturalist on the observation deck for a bird’s eye view of fall migration. We'll be looking for migrating raptors and any passerines passing through. Marvel at the spectacular views of Broad-winged Hawk kettles as they fly over the sanctuary, Bald Eagles, and other raptors. Hawk Watches are scheduled for Fridays, September13, 20, 27, October 11, 25, and November 1 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Loaner binoculars will be available. Note: a hawk watch day will be cancelled if there is rain, snow, or weather warnings. Registration and fee are per date. You must pre-register for each date you wish to attend. Ticket sales ends at 4:00 PM on the day before each hawk watch. One person per ticket. COST: Free for members, $5 nonmembers. Interested in becoming a member? THE RAVEN – Story Reading and Campfire

Listen to the haunting words of Edgar Allan Poe's classic poem, "The Raven," as you roast marshmallows drink hot chocolate and enjoy the crisp autumn air. Don't miss out on this unique storytelling experience under the stars! Dave Pasake, retired Elementary School teacher, will read The Raven, a classic poem by Edgar Allan Poe about a man's grief and despair after the death of his lover Lenore. The poem features a mysterious raven that repeats the word "nevermore". Dave will discuss the American writer and poet, Edgar Allen Poe, as well as the Common Raven, a bird that is found year-round in North America, Europe and Asia. This program is suitable for families, adults and children alike. The Raven will be read outdoors around a fire pit. Hot chocolate will be served. Dress appropriately for the cooler night-time temperatures. The reading will take place indoors, in case of rain. Come enjoy the changing of the seasons.
