In the Presence of Birds: Oil Paintings by Janet Atkinson Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery | April 1 – May 29, 2026 2nd Floor, Scherman Hoffman Nature Center In the Presence of Birds is a solo exhibition of oil paintings by Janet Atkinson, featuring evocative depictions of birds and the natural world. Atkinson began her career as a professional illustrator, creating concept-driven imagery for book covers and editorial publications, where she became known for translating complex ideas into compelling visual narratives. She later transitioned to fine art, working primarily in oil, balancing subtle storytelling with expressive, painterly techniques. Her work has been recognized by Communication Arts, the Society of Illustrators, the Hispanic Creative Awards, and Print Design Annual. In 2026, she was selected for juried exhibitions including Visions: AAPL at the Carriage Barn Arts Center, the James Library & Center for the Arts 7th Annual Spring Show, and the Jackson's Art Prize 2026 Extended Long List. Sandy Hook
Early spring migration at “the hook.” If the winds are right, we could have a good flight of hawks, swallows, and other migrants. Spring birding at the hook for migrants. The wide variety of habitats here ensures a good diversity of bird species from herons and egrets to shorebirds, hawks, and songbirds. Be prepared for a fair amount of walking over flat and sometimes sandy terrain. Meet at parking lot B by the bathrooms. Led by Linda Mack, Carole Hughes, Jonathan Klizas, and Chris Daly. Easter and Spring Mini Portraits
Easter and Spring Mini Portraits with Village Studio at Lorrimer Sanctuary. Saturday April 4th, 9am -12pm We are excited to announce our Easter + Spring Mini Sessions at Lorrimer Sanctuary in Franklin Lakes, NJ on Saturday, April 4th, where we will have a floral stand decorated for the perfect backdrop to Spring and Easter Portraits for your little ones. Always a time of hope, spring reminds us of rebirth and new beginnings. 20% of the proceeds of this event will be donated to Lorrimer Sanctuary. Craft for the Birds!
Join area writer, birder, and conservation advocate Kelly Ball to craft a life-sized bird sculpture from upcycled cloth and become part of a crowdsourced art project. Each handcrafted bird commemorates a real bird that lost its life after hitting glass. Your bird will become part of a 300-ft art project that will travel the U.S. to educate the public about bird-window collisions and you'll be part of the searchable database of people that contributed. We'll also learn how to prevent bird-window collisions - especially important during spring migration! Note: This is a family-friendly program. Adults must accompany children. Participation is limited. Pre-registration is required. WHERE: Nature Center of Cape May, 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ.
