    In the Presence of Birds: Oil Paintings by Janet Atkinson Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery | April 1 – May 29, 2026 2nd Floor, Scherman Hoffman Nature Center In the Presence of Birds is a solo exhibition of oil paintings by Janet Atkinson, featuring evocative depictions of birds and the natural world. Atkinson began her career as a professional illustrator, creating concept-driven imagery for book covers and editorial publications, where she became known for translating complex ideas into compelling visual narratives. She later transitioned to fine art, working primarily in oil, balancing subtle storytelling with expressive, painterly techniques. Her work has been recognized by Communication Arts, the Society of Illustrators, the Hispanic Creative Awards, and Print Design Annual. In 2026, she was selected for juried exhibitions including Visions: AAPL at the Carriage Barn Arts Center, the James Library & Center for the Arts 7th Annual Spring Show, and the Jackson's Art Prize 2026 Extended Long List.     Join us at Scherman Hoffman for spring break fun! Each themed day will be filled with super fun Teacher/Naturalist led activities and adventures in the great outdoors. Sign up for one or more days. Be sure to pack a snack and lunch. For youth ages 6 to 10 years. COST: $100.00 per day. SCHEDULE: 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM each day Monday, March 30– Camp Favorites - Enjoy summer campers' favorite activities, outdoor exploration, art project, and nature game. Tuesday, March 31 – Enchanted Woodlands - Make a fairy house or a gnome home for the fairies and gnomes in our Enchanted Forest. Wednesday, April 1 – Home Sweet Home - Make and take home some "home sweet homes" for the animals. Wednesday, April 8 - Camp Favorites - Enjoy summer campers' favorite activities, outdoor exploration, art project, and nature game. Thursday, April 9 – Enchanted Woodlands - Make a fairy house or a gnome home for the fairies and gnomes in our Enchanted Forest.     Enjoy a quiet morning here at the Sanctuary walking the trails with an NJ Audubon staff or Associate Naturalist. These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is snow, rain, or weather warnings. There will be no walk 4/4, 5/2. 5/9, and 5/23. COST: Free for members, $5 nonmembers. Interested in becoming a member?     Led by Kristen Mylecraine, Yoga Teacher and NJ Audubon Senior Research Scientist Yoga is a great way to relax, connect with yourself, and increase flexibility and strength. Explore the connections between yoga and nature in this 75-minute class. No experience necessary; all levels welcome. Please arrive 10 minutes early and bring a yoga mat. For ages 15 years and older. This workshop will be held outdoors when the weather is suitable. During inclement weather it will be held indoors. Ticket sale ends on the day of each class at 10:45 AM. We are offering an in-person class at the sanctuary and a virtual class online simultaneously. Be sure to purchase the correct ticket. There will be no classes 4/4, 5/9, and 5/23.     Come for an adventure to the world of amphibians and explore our vernal ponds. Come for an adventure to the world of amphibians! We’ll explore our vernal ponds with nets and buckets and listen and look for American Toads that come to the ponds to lay their eggs once a year.     Learn how to identify wildflowers in this indoor/outdoor workshop. Led by Dorothy Smullen, Teacher Naturalist. Don’t just scan the color pages to try to identify wildflowers! Join Dorothy to learn how to use the identification keys in your guidebooks. We will brush up on flower vocabulary and practice hands-on ID in the indoor part. Following that, we will walk the trails to see and identify what's in bloom. Bring your favorite wildflower guide and camera. Registration required by 4/10 at 4:00 PM.
