NJ Audubon: Easy Native Plant Propagation
Led by Stephanie Punnett, Program Director Start some native plant seeds and make a pollinator home for your garden. Residential landscapes are becoming increasingly important for the survival of native pollinators and other wildlife and can be home for both humans and wildlife. In this workshop we’ll show you how to create a wildlife garden and a simple way to start native plants from seed. You can make up to five mini-greenhouses from repurposed materials and plant your choice of over twenty species of native plant seeds. Since our last year's workshop, we've a few more species of native plants to the seed collection. As a bonus, make a pollinator home for native bees from recycled materials for your backyard. The Best of Winter Birding – Eagles, Owls, Ducks and More!
Join CMBO Director Brett Ewald for a two-day winter birding workshop exploring all Cape May County has to offer! Southern NJ provides incredible winter birding! With over ten species of diurnal raptors (hawks and owls) and twenty-five species of waterfowl possible, there is so much to see and appreciate, set in some of the most beautiful and remote landscapes on the Eastern Seaboard. While we’ll focus on these groups of birds, we’ll also take time to enjoy shorebirds, gulls, gannets, sparrows are more on this in-the-field workshop. Past years have featured Rough-legged Hawks, Short-eared Owls, and eiders. We don’t pre-set an itinerary, but will explore parts of Cape May County, Forsythe NWR (Atlantic County), and the Delaware Bayshore northward into Cumberland County, depending on weather conditions, tide times and sightings reports. We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED COST: $175 members, $225 nonmembers. Interested in becoming a member? Be sure to check the forecast in advance and dress in layers appropriate for prevailing weather conditions. The weather in Cape May can differ considerably from nearby inland areas and may be warmer, colder, or windier so it’s best to be over prepared. We may have to bird in the rain, so please bring your rain gear. TRANSPORTATION: Please arrive at the appointed time with a full tank of gas, as transportation to field sites is by private vehicles. We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over jetties. CANCELLATION: CMBO programs require a minimum number of registrants to run, five days in advance of the start of the tour but are seldom cancelled. If we do cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, we notify all participants in advance, and all are eligible for a full credit or refund. Participants may cancel without penalty if greater than 30 days in advance. Cancellations 10 to 30 days in advance may be subject to a 25% service charge. Instructors:Phil Witt and Jack Moskowitz, Associate Naturalists This workshop will focus on integrating Lightroom into a Photoshop workflow. More and more photographers are using Lightroom to organize and process their images. However, Photoshop allows the photographer to easily accomplish image editing that would be difficult in Lightroom. In this workshop students will learn how to integrate Lightroom/Bridge/Adobe Camera RAW/Photoshop into a combined workflow. The workshop will also focus on more advanced editing techniques, such as masking in Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw and using layers/masking in Photoshop. Participants are encouraged to bring a flash drive with two images (preferably RAW) for editing demonstrations. Lecture/discussion. Registration required, ticket sales end on 1/17 at 4:00 PM.
