Optics 101
Cape May Point State Park - NORTH Shelter NJ, United StatesJoin CMBO naturalist Chuck Slugg to learn about all things optics! Our resident expert on all things optics will explain what all those numbers mean, how to choose binoculars and spotting scopes that fit your budget and any special needs you have. You will have the opportunity to field test an array of optics outside (recommended for children 12 and up). This program will take place outdoors and involve minimal walking. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: We bird in all weather. Be sure to check the forecast in advance and dress in layers appropriate for prevailing weather conditions. The weather in Cape May can differ considerably from nearby inland areas and may be warmer, colder, or windier so it’s best to be over prepared. We may have to bird in the rain, so please bring your rain gear. TRANSPORTATION: We may walk over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. If we cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, all participants will be notified as soon as possible and are eligible for a full refund. Participants may cancel without penalty if greater than 48 hours in advance. Sorry, no refund for cancellations less than 48 hours in advance unless due to health emergencies; however, registrations can be transferred to another program in the future. DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP 1: Understanding your Digital Camera
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesIn workshop 1 David DesRochers will review the basics of understanding your camera. The instructors will go over the camera controls, helping participants understand how the settings work and how changes in settings affect the image. Participants will learn what equipment can be used to achieve different effects. By the end of the workshop, participants will understand lenses, camera bodies (mostly digital single lens reflex bodies), megapixels, shutter speeds, f/stops, focal lengths, apertures, exposure histograms, and depth of field—and how all of these can be used to take good nature photographs. Although the focus will be on nature photography, many of the same principles and equipment needs apply to other kinds of photography as well. One person per ticket.
