Troy Meadows Birding Walk

June 10 @ 8:30 am - 11:30 am

With Dave Hall. Explore both fields and forested wetlands in one of the largest well-preserved swamps in northern New Jersey. Varied habitat can be great for breeding birds of the woodlands and meadows. The combination of forest and meadow habitat makes for spectacular views of late summer residents actively foraging.

Troy Meadows is a large, diverse freshwater marsh located in East Hanover, Hanover, and Parsippany-Troy Hills, in Morris County, New Jersey. It is located within the Whippany River Watershed in the Passaic River Basin. It is 3,100 acres, located downstream of the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge and the Black Meadows, upstream of the Great Piece Meadows Preserve, and about 25 miles west of New York City. It is located along the Atlantic flyway and serves as a staging area for migratory waterfowl.

Troy Meadows is designated as a “National Natural Landmark,” by the National Park Service, a “New Jersey Natural Area” and also a “Natural Heritage Priority site” by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection (NJ DEP).Footing can be wet and/or slippery if frozen. Drive to the end of Troy Meadows Road and you will see a parking area to your left or park along the road on the left.
