Monty Python and the Sora Rail World Series of Birding Team Highlight

Monty Python and the Sora Rail

The World Series of Birding was a first time for every member of the team! It was a family affair (Captain Mary Birrer and dad, Greg Birrer, brother Nat Birrer, and uncle Bob Birrer – (rear right in photo). They got up the courage to make a go of the competition and had a fantastic time running into other birders, traveling around the state, and seeing great birds. Highlights included Northern Pintails at DeKorte Park and a Wilson’s warbler along the Black River. Their route took them north-south, starting early in the morning (3:30am!) at the Black River in Chester on Saturday and ending at Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. They ended with a total of 112 bird species counted, and their fingers are crossed for a Sora Rail next time! They also raised $2545 for NJ Audubon!
