Youth Birding Mentor Program
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesAre you interested in honing your birding skills and teaching young people to love birding? This seven part certificate course will help you improve your ID skills, help you learn the skills needed to teach youth effectively, and provide training and opportunities for working with NJ Audubon as a Youth Birding Mentor. CLASS DATES: April 16th from 6-8pm: Mentor Meet and Greet and Program Introduction May 14th from 6-7:30pm: Birding by Shape and Color June 7th from 8-10am: Wood Warblers July 16th from 6-7:30pm: Teaching Youth Pt. 1 September 24th from 6-7:30pm: Teaching Youth Pt. 2 October 11th from 7:30-9am: Raptor ID November 22nd from 9-10:30am: Winter Waterfowl (@ DeKorte Park) All classes are in-person at Lorrimer Sanctuary unless stated otherwise. ***Optional classes and opportunities to shadow public walks throughout this timeline*** COST: FREE IMPORTANT INFORMATION: -Certified program graduates will be required to get a background check before working as NJ Audubon Youth Birding Mentors -This program is for adults and teens 16+. All participants require a ticket for this program. One ticket will cover the entire series of classes. Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesLorrimer Sanctuary's Tiny Tots Team welcomes the youngest birders, those 18 months to 5 years, to search the Sanctuary for birds! For many of our team members, this is their first birdwatching experience EVER, so we make this day super fun with a scavenger hunt, touchable items, and crafts! Support the Tiniest Birders and our Lorrimer Sanctuary by donating to our team! Join our team event on Saturday May 10th at 11am at Lorrimer Sanctuary for free activities! Let us know you are coming by joining the team! Sign up to be a member of our World Series of Birding team HERE (no registration fees): This is a fundraiser to help support NJ Audubon. All the money you raise is earmarked for the Education department and will go directly to providing for our future programs.

We welcome a new generation of budding naturalists to Lorrimer Sanctuary for this "grown-up-and-me" style program. We will read books, explore outside, and learn about nature in age-appropriate ways for littles! These programs are hands-on and will get children dirty and/or wet. Registration ends at 5 pm the day before each event! This program is best for kids 18 months to 3.5yrs. SCHEDULE: July 10th: July 17th: July 24th: Mysterious Moths July 31: SKIP August 7th: August 14th: August 21st: COST: $6 per child for members, $7 per child for nonmembers.
