Fungi have been used for thousands of years by humans, not only as food but as medicine, fire-starters, insect repellants, decoration, for religious ceremonies and more. Fungi are very important to forests. Not only are they decomposers and recyclers in the forest ecosystem, but they also connect to tree roots – a mutualistic symbiosis that might allow trees to communicate with each other. After a talk and display about fungi fun facts, we will walk the trails to look for the diverse groups of mushrooms and fungi.  Hand-outs available. One person per ticket.
