Springwatch Update Mid April

Tom Reed’s Cape May Springwatch Video Log

In the second Springwatch vlog, Tom Reed discusses recent weather and highlights that this season has been particularly wet and stormy. Northern Gannets are slowly diminishing in numbers with most adult birds already headed north towards the breeding grounds. Mid to late April is the peak migration window for Double-crested Cormorants. Multiple species of Ibis have been counted so far including over 500 Glossy, 2 White-faced, and 3 White Ibis. Blue-gray Gnatcatchers put on a spectacular show on April 14th with 226 migrants! The season had its first Humpback Whale sightings on April 19th and 23rd.
