Above Par Birding at Cox Hall Creek – October 4, 2026

Leaders: Kathy & Roger Horn, Alan Crawford, Pam Hubert, Bernie Hodgdon

Temp: 65° F

Winds: E 15 mph

Weather Conditions: light rain

Today was a day of streaming migrants at CHC WMA. Palm Warblers, Gray Catbirds, Bluejays and Northern Flickers, mostly segregated by species, were in constant motion. We had a few other warbler species as well and who knows what we missed, peering through wet binoculars! Falcons are also on the move, and we saw both American Kestrels and Peregrine Falcons. There were a couple of lingering Ospreys. October 9th is the last day for public comment on the Atlantic Menhaden Draft Addendum ll which the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission will be considering at their November meeting. While no single factor is likely to explain the alarming crash of the Osprey population, management of the commercial fishing industry, its catch limits and the timing of those catches, may be of benefit to the Osprey population as more data is being collected. To learn more and to comment, see Atlantic Menhaden Draft Addendum II – Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission .
