Birding Cape May Point – March 14, 2026

Leaders: Kathy & Roger Horn, Holly Lemieux, Bernie Hodgdon, Dennis McKane

Temp: 45°F

Winds: W 8 mph

Weather Conditions: overcast

Though most of the trails at the State Park are still closed due to storm damaged trees and shrubs blocking the way, we had a good walk along the Red Trail, up to the top of the dunes and through town. At the Spring Flight platform, lots of Northern Gannets and scoters were flying by, some in close proximity. A Harbor Seal was briefly spotted, eating a fish as it drifted by. Aaron and Carter, CMBO’s Springwatch Technicians, spotted a Northern Harrier coming across the bay and we watched as it flew in and over. A sizable flock of White Ibis circled overhead, a sight that would have been truly exceptional just a few years ago. A private yard feeder hosted Purple Finches, Fox Sparrow, juncos and a Hermit Thrush. Not a bad March morning!
