Up on the Dune crossing we scanned the ocean for various species and immediately saw Northern Gannets sailing above the ocean. Some American Herring Gulls were loafing about atop the water as well as a Red-throated Loon, while Black Scoter scooted along as though they were on a mission. A Gray Seal was diving up and down in the waters as well. Walking behind the dunes we explored the ponds were treated to pairs of Ring-necked Duck, Blue-winged Teal, Northern Shovelers and all along with the usual Mallards. Continuing down to the end of the Dune we crossed over the Dune again where we had a couple of American Oystercatchers, some Great Black-backed Gulls and much better looks at Black Scoter as the floated along the beach edge. Along the Blue and Yellow trail there were American Crows, Gray Catbird, Northern Mockingbird, White-throated Sparrows, and Northern Cardinals. We stopped on the path to Seagrove Avenue, and we had great looks at Eastern Bluebird, while overhead American Robins were resting in the trees above us. Throughout the morning, we continued to have many Yellow-rumped Warblers flitting about the trees and on the ground foraging for food. There were a few already starting to change into the black feathers from the overall gray and brownish look of their winter plumage. Lastly, we had two Tundra, Swans fly by demonstrating how much quieter their wingbeat is than that of the Mute Swan. “Not too shabby” for mid early March.
