Higbee Beach Birding

An event every week that begins at 7:30 am on Friday, repeating until October 29, 2021

Join Program Director Melissa Roach and CMBO naturalists for this 2-hour walk around the Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area! Famous for migration, we'll search for warbler, vireos, sparrows, and so much more.  If the winds are right, we could be awash with migrants! PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. COST: $6 members, $10 nonmembers. Interested in becoming a member? Please click on the following link to learn more or join: Become a Member today! IMPORTANT INFORMATION:  We bird in all weather. Be sure to check the forecast in advance and dress in layers appropriate for prevailing weather conditions. The weather in Cape May can differ considerably from nearby inland areas and may be warmer, colder, or windier so it’s best to be over prepared. We may have to bird in the rain, so please bring your rain gear. TRANSPORTATION: We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over jetties. NEW JERSEY AUDUBON'S PROGRAM GUIDELINES: Fully vaccinated people may attend outdoor programs without masks. If you are unvaccinated, please mask up. Please do not come to a program if you are sick, have a sick family member or have reason to believe you may have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus. CANCELLATION: NJ Audubon’s CMBO programs are virtually never cancelled. If we cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, all participants will be notified as soon as possible and are eligible for a full refund. Participants may cancel without penalty if greater than 48 hours in advance. Sorry, no refund for cancellations less than 48 hours in advance unless due to health emergencies; however, registrations can be transferred to another program in the future. We reserve the right to substitute leaders if necessary, though this rarely happens. REGISTER HERE

September brings a diverse mix of songbirds, shorebirds, and other migrants to this productive location. Early fall may produce a variety of migrants from shorebirds to wading birds, terns, and/or warblers. A variety of habitats on the hook ensure good diversity. Led by Scott Barnes and associate naturalists. Nature Buddies Pre-K Program Animal Homes

Children ages 3-5 can join the Nature Buddies as we read stories and explore different nature themes. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Dress for the weather. The majority of the program will take place outdoors. Restrooms will be available. Wear closed-toe shoes. Preschoolers can join the fun at the Plainsboro Preserve as Miss Beth guides the Nature Buddies in stories, crafts and walks in nature. Each week we will explore a different nature theme which will delight the young and the young at heart. Every child must have an adult present. Accompanying adult must register for a free ticket. All children present must purchase a ticket. To keep our group size to our determined safety limit please do not bring any guests besides those registered. COST: $10 members, $15 nonmembers. Join the Monarch Monitoring Project team and learn about the Monarch butterflies that migrate through Cape May. After the talk, watch as small tags are affixed to Monarchs to track their migration.
