Explore varied habitats for fall migrants such as warblers and raptors to make an exciting trip! Meet at Stop & Shop, 875 Bloomfield Avenue, West Caldwell, NJ 07006 and carpool from there to different parts of this large reservation. Footing may be wet. The majority of the Hatfield Swamp consists of forested wetlands with areas of scrub-shrub habitat and emergent wetland within the flood plain of the Passaic River. The site encompasses the Great Piece Meadows Natural Heritage Priority Site. Wintering Sharp-shinned Hawks, Long-eared Owls and Northern Saw-whet Owls are common. Join CMBO naturalists for 2 hours of birding around the Cape May Point State Park! E-Z Birding is for beginning birders and for those want to learn more about the birds and how to find them. Cape May Point State Park is a great place to bird with a variety of habitats - woods, fields, ponds, dunes, and beach! PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED. COST: $6 members, $10 nonmembers. Be sure to check the forecast in advance and dress in layers appropriate for prevailing weather conditions. The weather in Cape May can differ considerably from nearby inland areas and may be warmer, colder, or windier so it’s best to be over prepared. We may have to bird in the rain, so please bring your rain gear. TRANSPORTATION: We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over jetties. NEW JERSEY AUDUBON'S PROGRAM GUIDELINES: Fully vaccinated people may attend outdoor programs without masks. If you are unvaccinated, please mask up. Sorry, no refund for cancellations less than 48 hours in advance unless due to health emergencies; however, registrations can be transferred to another program in the future. Help pull our seine net through the Cape May Harbor and see first hand what creatures inhabit the waters. Encounter an incredible diversity of marine life as you help pull a twenty-foot seine net through the shallows of Cape May Harbor. You will learn about the ecology of our coastal waters, and about the fascinating and ancient Horseshoe Crab. A great family outing! Pre-registration is required. COST: $10 adults, $5 children ages 3-12, children under 3 free. Limited to groups of up to 20 participants during this time. Children may not participate without an adult. Contact us at 609.427.3045 for private group tours and rates. INFORMATION: Meet 5-10 minutes prior to your program time at the picnic tables in front of the Trucksess Welcome Center at 1600 Delaware Avenue. We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over rocky and sandy area. Please bring necessary footwear, sun screen, bug spray, water bottle, and other belongings with you that you may need. Restrooms will be available to the public 30 minutes before and after the program.
