Riker Hill and Becker Tract
Walk through old farm fields to discover overwintering field birds and hike along the ridge for great views and more birds. Becker Farm dates back to 1880 when it was a farm. Over the years this farm added its famous railroad which entertained families for over 30 years. The now abandoned farm is a great place to spot grassland birds. PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED COST: $15 members, $20 nonmembers. REGISTER HERE
Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR
Winter brings Tundra Swans and many other species of waterfowl at this great refuge. We’ll also search for raptors including Northern Harrier, Red-shouldered Hawk, and Bald Eagles. Some wintering songbirds may also be present. Bring binoculars, spotting scope if you have one, and dress warmly. This trip requires minimal walking and follows an eight-mile auto loop. Led by Mike Mandracchia and Hank Burk. Location: 800 Great Creek Road, Oceanville, Forsythe NWR at main lot by headquarters. PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED COST: $25 Members, $30 Non-members REGISTER HERE
NJ Audubon: Framed Quilling Art Workshop
Led by Dorothy Smullen, Teacher Naturalist. Create a quilling design with birds, flowers, mushrooms, or animals and frame it in a shadow box. Quilling is an ancient art of rolled paper. All materials including the shadow box are included. Give your creation as a gift or showcase it in a special spot at home. One person per ticket. Ticket sale ends on 1/26 at 4:00 PM. Make a log suet feeder and a decorative seed feeder from repurposed materials. We’ll have all the ingredients to make your own suet mix for the log feeder and a bonus suet cake to take home.
