Holiday Wreath, Garland and Table Décor Workshops
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesA festive holiday class to learn how to create a wreath or other home decor from local evergreen cuttings. Using fresh evergreens, create a handcrafted wreath, garland, or table decoration of distinction that will rival those gracing the pages of expensive specialty catalogs. The process is easy to learn, and even beginners leave with impressive creations. Greenery and wire are provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own special decorations. Sessions are limited to 14 participants. Pre-registration is a must. If you have a large group, you can arrange for a private event!  NOTE: We will need plenty of fresh evergreens for these workshops. If anyone has evergreens from their yard to donate, please call the Nature Center of Cape May at 609.427.3045 to arrange for delivery or pick up. Thank you! NJ Audubon: Bluebird Nestbox Workshop
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesLed by Stephanie Punnett, Program Director Entice bluebirds to your backyard with a nestbox to raise their young! Eastern Bluebirds are great insect eaters. In this workshop you will assemble a nestbox from a kit, walk outdoors to look in a few nestboxes to look for and identify last year’s nests, and learn how to maintain your nestbox. We’ll look at several ways to mount your nestbox in your yard. Recommended for adults. Tickets are per nestbox. One person per ticket. Ticket sale ends 03/15 at 4:00 PM. Nature Infused Cocktail Workshop
Lorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesLearn the art of infusion with natural ingredients to create a take-home creation. Join us for an adult only program focused on infusing nature into your favorite adult beverages. We'll be using some locally sourced native plants and popular craft cocktail embellishments. Each participant will craft two take-home infusions to pair with their favorite spirits and to share with friends and family! Please note, alcohol is not provided at this workshop. Creative Hands Club: Glass on Glass Mosaics
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesBack by popular demand, create a glass on glass mosaic with Tina Giaimo! The theme is plants and pollinators. Templates will be provided with outlines plus all the materials needed to make a framed scene. Wednesday's class is for cutting and gluing glass pieces to an upcycled frame. Come back the next evening for cleaning and grouting the piece so that is ready to be hung. If you can not make the Thursday evening class, contact Emily ([email protected]) to arrange another time to finish your project. Pre-registration is required. Writing Nature (Session 1): Watery World
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesCelebrate your inner poet with Cape May's Poet Laureate, Sylvia Baer! These workshops will focus on using the natural world as a "springboard" for writing poetry. We will explore and "play with" several different poetic forms including sonnets, villanelles, and free-verse. And we will use the wonderful resources and views afforded us at our extraordinary venue. No experience is necessary and no one will be required to share any writing. Each session will focus on different elements and be independent of each other. Sylvia Baer who is a teacher, poet, storyteller, and translator has lived in many countries and speaks several languages. She has been teaching English Literature for over 50 years and has created creative writing programs and publications and been the founding editor of several national academic publications. She is a graduate of Northfield School (now NMH), Washington College (BA and MA) and The University of Maryland (PhD), an Associate Fellow of Yale University (Davenport), and was recently named the Poet Laureate of Cape May, NJ, where you can visit her Poet-Tree. Her book, Learning Life: A Memoir was published in August of 2022. WHEN: Wednesday, June 5th 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM COST: $25 Members, $30 Non-member. Using traditional jewelry tools and techniques, you will cut, solder, form, and finish your very own silver wave ring. Enjoy an afternoon with CM Harbor views, while learning something new! Please wear sneakers or boots, tie back long hair, and avoid loose-fitting clothes while taking this class. Pre-registration is required.
