NJ Audubon: Scary Diabolical Plants
Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Rd, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesLed by Dorothy Smullen, Teacher/Naturalist Those diabolical plants! From poisonous to causing allergies, this presentation is all about those scary plants. Join Dorothy for an illustrated program on plants that are poisonous, spiny, deadly, invasive, or illegal. We will also see plants that trap and eat insects and those that cause allergies. Vote on the scariest for Halloween! This program will be presented in person at Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary and via Zoom. Please be sure to purchase the correct ticket. One person per ticket. Ticket sale ends 10/20 at 4:00 PM. Creative Hands Club: Posh Pumpkins
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesNo-carve decorative techniques will be used to create festival fall décor for your home using real and fake pumpkins. Pressed flowers, dried natural materials, paints and more will be used. All supplies will be provided but you are welcome to bring along more of your own gorgeous gourds. Diane Cornell Wildlife Garden Project: Winter Gardening 101
Triangle Park 498 Coral Ave, Cape May, NJ, United StatesPlease join us for Winter Gardening 101, a continuation of the Diane Cornell Wildlife Garden Project suite of events. Have you been wanting to learn how to transform your backyard habitat into a haven for migrating and overwintering insects? This program at Cape May Point’s Triangle Park, a model backyard habitat, will provide you with an introduction into the gardening methods and variation species you can add to your home’s landscape for the colder months of the year! Join Jack McDonough, butterfly and invertebrate conservationist for the Endangered and Nongame Species Program under NJDEP Fish & Wildlife, who will be presenting on these important topics. The presentation will include a garden tour of Triangle Park, a discussion on insect migration, and the opportunity to take home seeds of various plants to add to your home garden! Creative Hands Club: Slow Stitching

Slow stitching is using fabric, a needle and thread to create textile art one stitch at a time focusing on intention and the joy of creating. NJ Audubon Employee and Volunteer Art Show
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesThe NJ Audubon Employee and Volunteer Art Show will be opening a the Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery, located on the 2nd floor of the Scherman Hoffman building. Our volunteers and employees will be displaying their latest and favorite wildlife and natural landscapes artwork between October 7, 2023, and January 31, 2024. Light refreshments will be served on October 7 between 12:30pm and 3pm. The Art Gallery is open: Thursday-Saturday 9am – 5pm Sunday 12 noon – 5pm. Cost: FREE Location: Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery on the second floor of the Scherman Hoffman Sanctuary, 11 Hardscrabble Rd. in Bernardsville.
Creative Hands Club: Glass on Glass Mosaics
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesCreate a glass-on-glass mosaic of a peaceful winter scene. Glass On Glass with Tina Giaimo. Templates will be provided with outlines plus all the materials needed to make a framed scene. The first class is for cutting and gluing glass pieces to an upcycled frame. Class #2 is for cleaning and grouting the piece so that is ready to be hung. Pre-registration is required. Canoe Brook Reservoir JFK Parkway, Short Hills, NJ, United StatesThis RESTRICTED ACCESS site is a hot spot for wintering waterfowl. Join us in our annual bird count for NJ American Water. NJ Audubon has been granted access to New Jersey American Water Canoe Brook Reservoir, one of the best places in Essex County for wintering waterfowl. We may catch a glimpse of hawks and perhaps a Bald Eagle. NJ American Water has been collecting our annual count data for almost 20 years! Be a part of conservation. The Digital Thermal Camera allows the user to observe nocturnal birds such as owls, monitor the migration patterns of nocturnal species and detect roosting birds in trees.
