Led by Angus Macaulay, NJ Audubon Teacher Naturalist Can technology improve your birding experience? Join us on the trails Hawk Rise Wildlife Sanctuary and find out. We will use phone apps to help identify, locate, and record birds as we walk the trails. The primary apps for this program will be Merlin Bird ID and eBird by Cornell Lab. You may consider installing these apps in advance. This program is appropriate for individuals of all ages. Come dressed for the weather. Cold beverages will be served afterwards. We explore the coastal saltmarsh of Cape May from Cape Island Creek to the Wildwoods and view the natural wonders of historic Cape May Harbor. The Osprey is a 37' pontoon boat that has a comfortable enclosed cabin with large viewing windows, a front deck with a railing, and a restroom on board. Non-motorized wheelchair accessible. Join CMBO volunteers for an interactive bird walk around The Nature Conservancy’s South Cape May Meadows! Each family will start the program with a bird bingo card full of breeding birds who are calling the Meadows home this summer. Join Cape May Bird Observatory staff and naturalists on a trolley tour to local “natural habitats” (with exits at two spots), learning about the beauty, diversity, abundance (millions of birds, butterflies, and dragonflies pass through each year), geography, and extensive history of this amazing spectacle. Explore one of the area’s ever-changing coastal habitats - the beach, ocean, and dunes of Cape May’s “The Cove” beach. We’ll scour the shallows, comb the shoreline, and walk along the dunes in search of hidden treasures & signs of wildlife. Plein Air Painting: Plein Air: a French phrase meaning “in open air," refers to the act of painting and drawing natural landscapes or subjects in nature. Fungi have been used for thousands of years by humans, not only as food but as medicine, fire-starters, insect repellants, decoration, for religious ceremonies and more. Fungi are very important to forests. Not only are they decomposers and recyclers in the forest ecosystem, but they also connect to tree roots – a mutualistic symbiosis that might allow trees to communicate with each other. Join the Lorrimer Sanctuary staff for a campfire summer sendoff! We’ll be roasting marshmallows and making s’mores over an open fire while we tell tales of fun at summer camp! We’ll be playing camp favorite games with kids and parents alike and searching for clues along the trails during our scavenger hunt. Children must be accompanied by an adult; this is not a drop-off program.
