We explore the coastal saltmarsh of Cape May from Cape Island Creek to the Wildwoods and view the natural wonders of historic Cape May Harbor. The Osprey is a 37' pontoon boat that has a comfortable enclosed cabin with large viewing windows, a front deck with a railing, and a restroom on board. Non-motorized wheelchair accessible. Join us at Lorrimer Sanctuary on the fourth Sunday of every month for nature-based art projects! Cyanotype Printing: Connect with the environment in a fun and unique way with cyanotype printing! Make your own nature-based compositions and let the sun do the printing for you! The program will begin with a short walk on the trails at Lorrimer Sanctuary followed by a printing demonstration. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Supplies will be provided This is an all ages event, not a drop off program: children must have an accompanying adult if under 16 years old This event will be both indoors and outdoors, please dress appropriately for the weather. Ticket sale for each class ends at 4:00 PM on the day before the class. Explore one of the area’s ever-changing coastal habitats - the beach, ocean, and dunes of Cape May’s “The Cove” beach. We’ll scour the shallows, comb the shoreline, and walk along the dunes in search of hidden treasures & signs of wildlife. Join Lorrimer Sanctuary after dark for a fascinating exploration into the world of MOTHS! There are far more species of moths than butterflies and they live fascinating lives. Learn about these important creatures and see what we catch with smelly bait and light traps. We’ll begin with a learning session before the capturing. Moth Night follows National Moth Week, held annually worldwide during the last full week of July to celebrate moth beauty, ecology and habitats. Fungi have been used for thousands of years by humans, not only as food but as medicine, fire-starters, insect repellants, decoration, for religious ceremonies and more. Fungi are very important to forests. Not only are they decomposers and recyclers in the forest ecosystem, but they also connect to tree roots – a mutualistic symbiosis that might allow trees to communicate with each other. After a talk and display about fungi fun facts, we will walk the trails to look for the diverse groups of mushrooms and fungi. Hand-outs available. One person per ticket. We explore the coastal saltmarsh of Cape May from Cape Island Creek to the Wildwoods and view the natural wonders of historic Cape May Harbor. The Osprey is a 37' pontoon boat that has a comfortable enclosed cabin with large viewing windows, a front deck with a railing, and a restroom on board. Non-motorized wheelchair accessible. Plein Air Painting: Plein Air: a French phrase meaning “in open air," refers to the act of painting and drawing natural landscapes or subjects in nature. Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of Lorrimer Sanctuary! Join us for an afternoon of painting and drawing in our meadow. Supplies will be provided.
