Harbor Safari
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesHelp pull a seine net through the Cape May Harbor to see first-hand what creatures inhabit the waters. Encounter an incredible diversity of marine life as you help pull a twenty-foot seine net through the shallows of Cape May Harbor. You will learn about the ecology of our coastal waters, and about the fascinating and ancient Horseshoe Crab. A great family outing! Pre-registration is required COST: $12 adults, $6 children ages 3-12, children under 3 free. Limited to groups of up to 20 participants during this time. Children may not participate without an adult. Contact us at 609.427.3045 for private group tours and rates. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Meet 5-10 minutes prior to your program time at the picnic tables in front of the Trucksess Welcome Center at 1600 Delaware Avenue. We may walk up to 1.5 miles, over generally level, sometimes muddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over rocky and sandy area. Please bring necessary footwear, sunscreen, bug spray, water bottle, and other belongings with you that you may need. Restrooms will be available to the public 30 minutes before and after the program. Nighttime on the Beach

Learn about ghost crab habitat, how they move, and what they eat. Do you think you can catch one? Discover what other creatures are on the beach at night. Nature Explorers – SPRING 2022 Series!

Great for 3-6 YOs! The Lorrimer Sanctuary invites families, friends, and nature lovers to join us for an exploration of our natural world. Enjoy watching your budding naturalist ‘go wild’ experiencing woodland adventures. Children use all their senses to safely explore and discover the wonders of nature here at Lorrimer Sanctuary. Children are introduced to nature concepts using a combination of storytelling, exploration and arts and crafts. It is educational and fun! SCHEDULE: April 16- EGGcellent eggs! Learn about animals that lay eggs, plant a seed in your very own biodegradable egg pot, and go on an egg hunt! April 23- Exploring the Five Senses: As we explore, children will be encouraged to make their own discoveries. We will use our senses to ‘tune in’ to the world around us. May 14 - Brilliant Birds: Birds are migrating, building nests, looking for food, and so much more. We'll build our own binoculars and look for birds all around us! May 12th (THURSDAY) is Tiny Tots World Series of Birding day! Please look for this as a separate event. May 28- Fabulous Flowers! Let's celebrate spring by exploring all the wonderful wildflowers that live at Lorrimer! June 4th- Soil Soup! Pick apart soil and learn about the worms and other bugs that live in soil and how they help make our soil healthy. June 18th- Radical Reptiles: Visit with Gordon and Sunny, our resident turtle and snake, to learn about what makes reptiles different from other animals. Children will explore these differences through a hands-on session with our educational animals! COST: $8 per child for members, $10 per child for nonmembers. The Osprey is a 37' pontoon boat that has a comfortable enclosed cabin with large viewing windows, a front deck with a railing, and a restroom on board. Non-motorized wheelchair accessible. Explore a stream with nets and buckets. Catch crayfish, water striders, water pennies, and more! The Passaic River gently flows through our sanctuary, and is shallow and perfect for wading in. Family Fun Week A
Nature Center of Cape May 1600 Delaware Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesDiscover different habitats around Cape May through hands-on exploration, exciting activities, and creative projects! Join us for an adventure-filled week for people of all ages! We will immerse ourselves in diverse Cape May habitats to explore all things nature. We will visit a different natural area each day from the harbor beaches, saltmarsh, meadows, freshwater ponds, woodlands and more. We will explore on foot, on wheels, and on a boat. We will investigate natural phenomenon, get crafty with recycled/natural materials, and be playful in the outdoors. Get ready to be curious, creative, and open to new experiences! Note: in addition to our daily explorations, we will include a night hike for ghost crabs! DETAILS: For two or more Adult & Child combos. One adult must accompany child(ren). Ages 3 and up! Session A: June 20th-24th, 2022: M-F, 9:00am to 12:00pm, with a Thursday evening special program Pre-registration is required.
