Monarch Tagging Demo
Cape May Point State Park - East Shelter NJ, United StatesJoin the Monarch Monitoring Project team to learn about the Monarch butterflies that migrate through Cape May, as well as the ongoing research and outreach our staff is doing to help protect the species. After the talk, watch as small tags are affixed to Monarchs to track their migration to Mexico. And best of all, you'll learn how you can contribute to Monarch conservation! NO preregistration required. Family-friendly Meeting Location: Meets at the East Shelter located next to the Hawkwatch platform at the Cape May Point State Park Cost: FREE - contributions to the Monarch Monitoring Project are welcome. Twig to Tonic: Birch Beer Workshop
FeaturedLorrimer Sanctuary 790 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ, United StatesBranch out and brew something wild! Long before soda came from a bottle, it came from the forest. In this workshop, participants discover how sweet birch bark and twigs get transformed into a fizzy, fragrant drink, from foraging to fermentation. This program is designed for adults and children 12+ (with a chaperone). What to expect: A short woodland walk to identify birch trees learning how to tell it apart from look-alikes Make birch beer concentrate Decorate your bottle for a great take-home A take-home recipe card so families can try a small batch at home COST: $45 Members, $45 Non-members CANCELLATION: NJ Audubon’s programs require a minimum number of registrants to run. If we cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, all participants will be notified as soon as possible and are eligible for a full refund. Participants may cancel without penalty if greater than 48 hours in advance. Back Bay Birding by Boat on the Osprey
Miss Chris Marina - The Osprey 1212 Wilson Dr, Cape May, NJ 08204, NJ, United StatesJoin Captain Bob and the crew of The Osprey for close-up looks at secretive rails, nesting Ospreys, migrant shorebirds, terns, gulls, herons and more. We explore the coastal saltmarsh of Cape May from Cape Island Creek to the Wildwoods and view the natural wonders of historic Cape May Harbor. The Osprey is a 37' pontoon boat that has a comfortable enclosed cabin with large viewing windows, a front deck with a railing, and a restroom on board. Non-motorized wheelchair accessible. Beachcombing the Cove
Sunset Pavilion 62 Beach Avenue, Cape May, NJ, United StatesWhat treasures does the sea leave behind at the water’s edge? Join us for an hour of beach combing to find out! Explore one of the area’s ever-changing coastal habitats - the beach, ocean, and dunes of Cape May’s “The Cove” beach. We’ll scour the shallows, comb the shoreline, and walk along the dunes in search of hidden treasures & signs of wildlife. Along the way, we’ll share some tips and tricks for identifying shells and other beach-inhabiting species! Pre-registration is required. Children may not participate without an adult. COST:$10/children, $12/adults WHEN: Wednesdays, 8:30am-9:30am WHERE:Meet at the flagpole near the Pavilion at the end of the Promenade by the Cove Beach (Cove Beach, Cape May, NJ, 08204). Stop by any Wednesday afternoon to check in on our monarch butterflies as they move through their incredible life cycle! Drop in anytime during the 45-minute window — no registration required, come for five minutes or the whole time. Each week we'll: Check on our resident monarchs and caterpillars, and see how much they've grown Learn about the monarch life cycle, from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly Help harvest milkweed in the garden to keep our hungry caterpillars fed Get a hands-on look at the pollinator garden and what makes it a perfect habitat COST: FREE CANCELLATION: NJ Audubon’s programs require a minimum number of registrants to run.
