NJ Audubon New Year’s Resolution Hike at Hawk Rise Sanctuary
Led by Angus Macaulay, NJ Audubon Teacher Naturalist Start the new year with fresh air and nature. Join us for an exploration of the trails at Hawk Rise where we will discuss easy ways to get closer to the natural world. This program is appropriate for individuals of all ages. Come dressed for the weather. Hot chocolate will be served afterwards. Registration is required by 1/7/2023 at 4:00 PM. COST: FREE Interested in becoming a member? Winter Tree ID: Buds, Bark, and Branches
Winter Tree ID: Buds, Bark, and Branches
Learn how to ID native tree species in winter by looking at the 3 "B's" - buds, bark, and branches! Join a Lorrimer Sanctuary naturalist for a brief hike as we talk about the native tree species that provide food and shelter for wildlife, as well as how to ID them after their leaves have fallen. We will focus on learning to identify the 3 “B’s” – Buds, Bark, and Branches! Bundle up! This class will be held entirely outdoors. Maple Sugaring
Come learn all about the process of making maple syrup through a hands-on demonstration. Tap a tree, collect sap, and taste test the syrup! Join a NJ Audubon naturalist for a fun look into the process behind making maple syrup! Learn how to identify a sugar maple tree, find out how maple sap (and eventually syrup) was discovered, collect sap, and practice tapping a tree yourself!
