Negri Nepote Native Grassland Preserve
Led by Chris and Paula Williams, NJ Audubon Associate Naturalists. Join the Williams for a walk through the fields of this grassland preserve to look for resident NJ birds, butterflies, and anything else nature will be showing. Grasshopper Sparrow, Bobolink, and American Kestrel, state threatened species, are found on this site. Bring binoculars if you have them. The trails through the field are easy to walk. This site is one of the first grassland restoration projects NJ Audubon has implemented for Franklin Township Open Space Committee. This program is funded by the Franklin Township Open Space Committee. Cost: Free. NJ Audubon: Spotting Scope Tutorial
Presented by Bill Graham, Zeiss Join us in the store for a tutorial on the use of spotting scopes and tripods. Do you fumble putting a spotting scope onto a tripod? So do we. Join us in learning how to attach various spotting scopes to a variety of different tripods. Some need plates. Some don't. Bring your scope and tripod for a quick demonstration on how to put the two together without wobble and before the bird flies away! Bill will even demonstrate how to Digi-scope using various adapters. COST: Free for members, $5 nonmembers. Registration required by 8/13 at 4:00 PM. Interested in becoming a member? Bird Portraits in Oil Pastels with Ingrid Harbour
Explore the creamy textures and the bold color pops that oil pastels provide to make a work of art on paper. Create realistic or impressionist portraits of New Jersey native birds, with the guidance of a professional artist and arts educator. Experience the beautiful natural light of the NJ Audubon classroom at the Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can look right out the window for inspiration. This group class will lead you step-by-step how to work from a photograph, establishing a base layer, color blocking, blending techniques, and details that make your composition stand out. Constructive feedback and guidance will be provided. An approachable yet structured format encourages you to follow your inner calling to make art. Beginner-friendly and open to adults and teen artists (under 18 must be accompanied by an adult; minimum age 16) interested in birds and oil pastels. Only 12 spots available - each participant must register separately. No walk-ins, pre-registration only.
