This is an opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas 1:1 or in a small group setting. Share your history, involvement, and love of the Sanctuary, give input and feedback regarding the center and get your thoughts and ideas heard. ZEISS Digital Thermal Imaging Camera Demo at Scherman Hoffman Nature
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesRichard Moncrief from Zeiss will be on hand to demonstrate and use the latest in Digital Thermal Imaging Cameras. The Digital Thermal Camera allows the user to observe nocturnal birds such as owls, monitor the migration patterns of nocturnal species and detect roosting birds in trees. They can even be used to locate difficult to find birds during the day. This program is free to the public. Why purchase optics from NJ Audubon? We have competitive prices. Morning Walk at Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary

These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is snow, rain, or weather warnings. Pre-registration required. Registration required by 4:00 PM the day before the walk. COST: Free for members, $5 nonmembers. IN-PERSON Nature Infused Yoga

Yoga is a great way to relax, connect with yourself, and increase flexibility and strength. Explore the connections between yoga and nature in this 75-minute class. No experience necessary; all levels welcome. For ages 15 years and older. Preregistration is required. Ticket sales end at 4:30 PM on the Friday before each class. You must pre-register, walk-ins will not be allowed to participate. We are offering an in-person class at the sanctuary and a virtual class online simultaneously. The in-person class has a limit of 10 people. Be sure to purchase the correct ticket. COST: $14 members, $18 nonmembers. Interested in becoming a member? NJ Audubon: Fungi Paper-Making Workshop Series
Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Rd, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesThis is a 2-day workshop where we will make the paper on November 18 and then use it for collage, sculpture, and/ or greeting cards on December 2. Led by Dorothy Smullen, Teacher Naturalist and former president of the New Jersey Mycological Association. This is a fun activity that has many decorative uses – making paper from just fungi and water. Only certain species of fungi are used in this process: shelf or bracket fungi that have thick cell walls made of chitin. Chitin (also found as the exoskeleton of insects and other arthropods) is a polysaccharide similar to cellulose which is used to make paper from trees. Mushrooms and fungi are in the news a lot these days concerning Medicinal's and myco-materials (fungi-leather and packaging). All materials provided. Limited to 10 participants. NJ Audubon: Old Bridge Waterfront Park Bird Walk
Old Bridge Waterfront Park 1729 NJ-35, Laurence Harbor, NJ, United StatesJoin Dave Oster at Old Bridge Waterfront Park in Laurence Harbor to bird along the waterfront for a variety of waterbirds. Old Bridge Waterfront Park preserves 71 acres of beach, dune vegetation, and wooded areas along Raritan Bay in Middlesex County. In late fall the park can be excellent for a variety of waterbirds, raptors, and hardy passerines. We'll bird the extensive waterfront for loons, grebes, sea ducks, gulls and gannets. Raptors such as Bald Eagle and Peregrine Falcon are often present. A boardwalk and paved trail run along the beach, and three jetties with level walkways offer good vantage points for scanning the bay. The dunes and wooded areas may offer some passerine surprises. While the walk is easy, please be prepared for seasonal wind and weather. Please bring your own binoculars, and spotting scope if desired. Registration required. NJ Audubon Employee and Volunteer Art Show
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesThe NJ Audubon Employee and Volunteer Art Show will be opening a the Wayrick Wildlife Art Gallery, located on the 2nd floor of the Scherman Hoffman building. Our volunteers and employees will be displaying their latest and favorite wildlife and natural landscapes artwork between October 7, 2023, and January 31, 2024. Light refreshments will be served on October 7 between 12:30pm and 3pm. The Art Gallery is open: Thursday-Saturday 9am – 5pm Sunday 12 noon – 5pm.
