Forest Stewardship Volunteer Mondays
Forest Stewardship Volunteer Opportunity Come join us at New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary to volunteer and help our staff manage our forest! Theses in-person volunteer days allow you to get hands-on experience in caring for our beautiful forests. Help maintain trails, and learn about and remove invasive species. No experience necessary - just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to help out! Don't miss this chance to make a positive impact on the environment and connect with like-minded individuals. Sign up now to secure your spot! This will be a recurring event. Please register for one or more days! Please make sure to wear long sleeves and plants , bring bug spray & sunscreen, Please wear comfortable clothes, shoes that can get muddy, and bring a water bottle. We will be using gloves, hand clippers, pruners, loppers and our hands to pull invasives. If you have a preferred set you enjoy using at home please bring them. You will be asked to fill out a volunteer form upon arrival. Please meet in our upper parking lot near the garage doors. FAQ: Do I need to stay for all 2 hours? No! We will welcome your help for as much time as you have available. Can children come? Yes, kids can definitely get involved! We will have activities like picking up sticks and light weeding that are perfect for young hands. Will you cancel in case of poor weather? If it is downpouring, thunderstorming, or there are high winds, we will cancel. Otherwise, this event will be on. Please wear warm clothing appropriate for being outdoors in cold or rain. This is an opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas 1:1 or in a small group setting. Share your history, involvement, and love of the Sanctuary, give input and feedback regarding the center and get your thoughts and ideas heard. These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is snow, rain, or weather warnings. Registration required by 4:00 PM the day before the walk. Pre-registration Required. COST: Free for members, $5 nonmembers. NJ Audubon: Lord Stirling Park Bird Walk
Somerset County Environmental Education Center 190 Lord Stirling Rd, Basking Ridge, NJ, United StatesJoin Dave Oster for a birdwalk at Lord Stirling Park. The Lord Stirling Park birdwalks have had up to 70 species and 13 warbler species in one day. This is a great spot for flycatchers, vireos, warblers, and goodies like Great-horned Owl, Red-headed Woodpecker, Alder Flycatcher, Marsh Wren, and in some years Prothonotary Warbler. We will also spend some time at the East Observation Deck, which overlooks the adjacent Great Swamp marshes. Trails are level but may be wet depending on recent rain. Please bring your own binoculars, and spotting scope if desired. There will be no equipment available to borrow. Registration required. IN-PERSON Nature Infused Yoga

Yoga is a great way to relax, connect with yourself, and increase flexibility and strength. Explore the connections between yoga and nature in this 75-minute class. No experience necessary; all levels welcome. For ages 15 years and older. Preregistration is required. There will be no class 03/30, 05/11, or 05/25. Ticket sales end at 4:30 PM on the Friday before each class. You must pre-register, walk-ins will not be allowed to participate. We are offering an in-person class at the sanctuary and a virtual class online simultaneously. The in-person class has a limit of 10 people. Be sure to purchase the correct ticket. Discover the fascinating life cycle and structure of ferns in this workshop led by Teacher Naturalist Dorothy Smullen. View the common species of New Jersey ferns and learn how to use a simple key to identify species. Bring a 10x magnifier if you have one; loaner magnifiers will be available to use for the workshop. NJ Audubon: Saturday Spring Hike
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesJoin Sue for a guided two-mile nature hike and enjoy the trees, birds, and plant life at Scherman Hoffman Nature Sanctuary. The trails we hike will vary, but we can guarantee beautiful views of our sanctuary. Walking time is flexible but will be no longer than 2 hours. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes; be prepared to walk on uneven ground and up hills. The hike will go rain or shine. What We Owe to Birds – Cape May Spring Fest Musical Keynote Performance
Paul Schmidchen Theatre 687 U.S. 9, Cape May, NJ, United StatesYou may hear birds singing at your feeder or backyard, now it’s time to listen to music inspired by those beautiful sound. Join us at the state-of-the-art Schmitdtchen Theatre at Lower Cape May Regional High School to see the musical presentation: What We Owe to Birds. This performance is a collaborative music and multimedia project meditating on bird conservation produced by five composers of the Princeton New Jersey-based Consonance Collective (CNSNC). Exploring topics ranging from the evolution of flight, flock migration behavior, birds of urban landscapes, birds endangered by forest fires, and shorebirds conservation, this project is brought to life by the BlackBox Ensemble, an NYC-based contemporary music ensemble dedicated to creating adventurous and engaging performances of the music of our time. What We Owe To Birds is CNSNC’s third entry in a series of collaborations with scientific partners, following on the heels of projects with the Space Telescope Science Institute and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center.
