NJ Audubon Digital Photography Workshop 2: Photographic Composition
New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ, United StatesInstructors: Phil Witt, Dave DesRochers, and Jack Moskowitz, Associate Naturalists Workshop 2 will focus on composition--that is, capturing the best image.  The workshop will also begin covering the basics of digital editing. Although the workshop will demonstrate digital editing using PhotoShop, most of the editing techniques can be implemented in other digital editing programs.  The workshop will be organized around three nature photography principles—light, composition, and moment.  All composition and editing techniques, from the initial lens choice to the image capture technique to PhotoShop editing, will be geared towards achieving an image that captures those three elements well.  Although we will stress getting the best image capture initially, sometimes Mother Nature needs a little help in the digital darkroom, so we will cover basic digital editing methods that can improve the image.  The workshop will review examples from a variety of subject types within nature photography, ranging from birds to insects to landscapes.  Participants will be encouraged to submit their own images for in-class editing. NJ Audubon Hawk Watches at Scherman Hoffman Observation Deck

Marvel at the spectacular view of raptors and other birds as they fly over the sanctuary. Hawk Watches are scheduled for Friday 11/4 and 11/11 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Note: a hawk watch day will be cancelled if there is rain, snow, or weather warnings. Registration and fee are per date. You must pre-register for each date you wish to attend. These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is snow, rain, or weather warnings. Registration required by 4:00 PM the day before the walk. You must pre-register, walk-ins will not be allowed to participate. Canoe Brook Reservoir JFK Parkway, Short Hills, NJ, United StatesThis RESTRICTED ACCESS site is a hot spot for wintering waterfowl. Join us in our annual bird count for NJ American Water. NJ Audubon has been granted access to New Jersey American Water Canoe Brook Reservoir, one of the best places in Essex County for wintering waterfowl. We may catch a glimpse of hawks and perhaps a Bald Eagle. NJ American Water has been collecting our annual count data for almost 20 years! Be a part of conservation.
